This is becoming too much.... satwik and Chirag doing so well and still unable to qualify for quarter

How on earth minions lost to Chinese Taipei pair in straight sets ...they took the match lightly it seems

3 game affair and the minions are expected to relax a bit avoid any injury etc as they have already qualified.

If you want to see India in top 20 of the medals tally, start calling a spade for what it is.

Our present batch of shooters are capable and the facilities they get puts them in a much privileged position that shooters from yesteryears did not get.

Lets put things into perspective and leave out all the excuse behind.

Calculate the conversion rate of entries into finals and finals into medals.

We need to get ruthless, because if we dont, the under-performers tag will stay on and the albatross of the past will keep weighing us down.

Truth is, the shooters have let us down big time. Almost everyone has faltered in crucial moments.

the performances are terrible, we are capable of doing much more.

So will the federation decide on sending only young shooters say not beyond the age of 23 to the Commonwealth Games? All great sporting countries take such decisions, Ma Long had to overcome a very rigorous Chinese selection process to qualify what is Apurvi here based on what performance? Korea dropped gold medalists from Rio in Archery. Unless you take tough decisions you will struggle in Olympics, we are too soft as a sporting nation.

I'm sure Rahi will not qualify too

Sadly, I cant argue about it, I wish I could.

Definitely there needs to be some tough calls. Every media channel, mainstream or otherwise, went about apologizing  for Manu's equipment malfunction. No one speaks of the fact that she had the lowest scores in the field of shooters and we dropped from 1st to out of contention. Not asking for blame-game but there needs to be some standard of accountability. When we lacked facilities, individual brilliance of 1-2 athletes brought us medals. Now that we have improved our facilities, this isnt the result that you want. Federations and ministry are also leaving behind their apathy.

With all of this, we have the ability to finish in the top 20 in the world. We can win bunch of medals in shooting, wrestling and boxing and bring out individual brilliant performers in other sports.

Our progress is in the right direction but the results at the big stage are not.  Its just a matter of 1 performance, 1 motivating medal, 1 event, 1 session that can change the tide for us and we wont ever have to look back.

Tidbit: Did anyone observe the commentary at the opening ceremony when our contingent marched. It was all about how we have not reached our potential. that is what we were here to change and announce our arrival at the big stage. Sadly, we failed.

Just exploring an angle. Did the shooters face mental pressure with weight of expectations. We ardent Indian sport followers knew the likes of Bhaker, Valarivan, Chaudhary etc but now the average Indian knows about them.

These same shooters performed well in 2019 World Cups but only faltered in Croatia World Cup.

I think the pandemic also broke the rhythm that they were in. We are judging that they are medal favourites based on 2019 results. But we should also consider the long break due to the pandemic.

If you look at the results, then the 'pressure' assessment is not incorrect.

Saurabh Chaudhary has a bad 10 minutes in the finals after the smashing performance in qualifiers.

Abhishek Verma's last 4 shots dropped him out of qualification.

Today, Manu falters in the 2nd series after topping the first series. There are other examples too...

Some top players were absent in the World Championships.

Moreover olympic finals are the epitome of these battles. Athletes need those extra edge to earn a medal. This is lacking in Indian shooters.

No compromise should be shown by the shooting federation during selections.Current form should be given some weightage. There are lots of shooters in the pipeline. So no shooter is indispensable. But special promising talents should be backed and nurtured like Saurabh Chaudhary

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
