Why are Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat participating in MQS  and not in main event for 25m Pistol.

Maybe it is an experiment. They maybe be hoping that the other two girls may gain a quota & it could be transferred to the shotgun shooters.

NRAI has a policy that athletes who have already won a quota will participate in MQS category to maximise chances of winning another quota. Hence, even Anjum starts in MQS for 50x3 while starts in main event for 10m, where we can’t get any more quotas.

Let us only focus on the Shooting World Cup. The bits and pieces in tennis, Rowing or Judo will not bring any medals. Nor will we see any creditable performance at the Olympics.

if you are not interested in Tennis , Rowing or Judo that is your choice , But I feel even if we qualify in some of these events that is a big improvement ....... In fact I found that we have improved a lot in Canoeing -  C2 and K2 .......... when we come to asian games these may have some hope of a medal ( we finished 6th in C2 in 2018 ) and for me that will be significant ...............

Again has I always say performance is important rather than medals, if we do good one day we will get. If Gopi had not put in his efforts we wouldn't have been power house. A small step will lead to big one later. If we don't follow up on equestrian it will not improve. we need to build on the start given. Saina gave that n rest is history. Deepa in gymnastics n now we have bunch of new people.

Then why did both Anjum and Apurvi both competed yesterday. Even Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma aren't there in MQS today only the young shooters Sarobjot Singh and Ravinder Singh are in MQS

Is this a trial to give chance to other shooters and we would aim to get quota in Asian Championships. Can Manu Bhaker become double starter in 25m Pistol as she obviously would have achieved MQS

In 25 m we have won only one quota ..... so we need to try to win one more ..... hence we cannot have manu or rani shooting while in 10m rifle women and 10m rifle we have won both quotas

For first part, as @nitinsanker said, we can't win any more quotas in 10m Air Rifle Women and 10m Air Pistol Men, hence quota winners are participating there. In other events, quota winners are not participating to maximise our chances of winning quota. Hence, Manu is not competing even in 25m Pistol and Anjum is not competing in 50x3 Rifle.

And Manu Bhaker has achieved MQS in 25m Pistol. Most likely, Manu and Rahi would be starters in 25m Pistol, but if Annu or someone else wins a quota in 25m Pistol (high chance considering that 4 quotas will be available at Asian qualifiers), we can nominate Manu from that quota and Heena or Yashaswini from the 10m quota won by Manu. Or we can exchange that quota for a quota in 50x3 Women for Anjum and start Apurvi and Elavenil in 10m. There are lot of ways we can use the extra quota even if Manu and Rahi are almost sure to start. Hence, this policy to maximise the chances to win quota.

If we know both Rahi and Manu can't win any additional quotas and already achieved MQS, then what are they doing in MQS event anyway which I believe has no element of pressure of competition. Atleast Apurvi, Anjum, Saurabh and Abhiskek Verma will experience that pressure

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
