Now that qualification to Boxing events have been released with Asia/Oceania 4-6 quotas per weight class, is the Asian Boxing Championships a good parameter to judge how many Indians would qualify. India ended the event with 13 medals - two gold, four silver and seven bronze medals

I don't think so maybe Asian games and Commonwealth games combined could be a good indicator

That is good news ............................ We should see Indian women in all weight categories as the number of quotas seats have increased from 36 to 100 ...

Technically it's increased from 80 to 100

It was decided to allocate 80 quotas to women in 2017

So it gives us a better chance to qualify as women's boxing is the strong discipline

As IOC said the quotas were based on the performance of continents in World Championships the last 2 women's world championship were in India and Kazakhstan. So we got quotas easily.

Women's categories :

*48-51 :  Mary Kom

China, Kazakhstan, Japan, North Korea, India + 1. Easy qualification. Even Mongolia and Taipei are good in this weight but with 6 in world qualification, more will join.

*54-57 :Sonia Chahal/Nikhat Zareen/Manisha Moun

China, North Korea,Thailand /India /Mongolia /Vietnam

*57-60 Sarita Devi

Thailand , China,South Korea, Mongolia /Tajikistan - unpredictable but Olympic bronze medallist from 2012 Chorieva is still 28 /India - may get a difficult draw due to poor performance in this category

*64-69 Basumatry /Lovlina

China, South Korea, Kazakhstan, India - not difficult competition unless a difficult draw, mostly not bcoz of world bronze

*69-75 Pooja Rani

After beating the world champion in 81kgrecently, she's expected to be in top 4 easily if not the best returning to 75kg.

China India South Korea Kazakhstan

Optimistic :5

Pessimistic :3

Average : 4

Excuse me for asking, it's just a curiosity, nothing offensive: all Indian people are colored?

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

Genetically, culturally or just skin color?

Genetically, I think Indians are their own genetic group with a lot of mixing with Central Asians. Some groups in Central India and Andaman Islands are genetically very close to African groups. Some groups in North East are genetically very close to Mongoloid groups of East Asia. There is some recent addition of Caucasian genes in a small group as a result of colonialisation.

Culturally, there is a very small group, mainly in large cities, which think they are whites but rest all are once again uniquely Indian culturally as well.

As far as color of skin is concerned, we have a wide variety ranging from pitch black to milky white, sometimes even in the same family.

    • I thought the only continental quotas applied in track cycling was for the individual events - the team events were purely based on the rankings list
    • keeps its perfect qualification record in women's curling    definitively gave them a lot of gifts today. For their sake hopefully they can draw better against the  tomorow.
    • Obviously impossible to know in advance but in 2022 all ten skaters Canada qualfiied skated individually, and 9/10 competed in a relay as well.
    • 4-3  over  at the break, Norway with hammer.
    • whatever you heard is just speculation. no one knows at the moment, probably even the orange himself.   and Iranian athletes failed to get visa so many times before. even female athletes. there is no pattern, it's just too random.    and yes Iran has a system of compulsory military service for men, and there is 50% chance for anybody to be randomly drafted by IRGC affiliated organizations. that's the case for Taremi and few others in the current team.
    • Would you believe the NCAA Indoor season has already started?
    • Some changes that I've noticed:   3x3 Basketball: With the expanded 12 team field, one extra team per gender qualifies through world rankings, one extra team qualifies through the universality driven tournament and there's now an Olympic Qualifier series to award the final quotas.   Beach Volleyball: Continental qualifiers have have priority over the World championship and World Rankings quotas and there's now Olympic Qualifier Series quotas.   Canoe Sprint: World ranking system now in place and will be used instead of awarding world championship quotas. Road Cycling: 2 nations ranking quotas per gender moved to universality.   Track Cycling: Sprint and Keirin ranking list is now combined and will award 14 quotas per gender. Previously it was 7+7. Team pursuit down to 8 quotas from 10. 2 of the quotas have been moved to madison (one additional team) and 6 to the omnium.   Fencing: Can get a Continental quota of you finished in the top 24 of the rankings. It was previously top 16.    Hockey: 2 pro league quotas replace two qualification tournament quotas.   Judo: 5 less universality places and 4 more Continental places. For men, there's two more spots for Asia, one less for Oceania and 1 more for the Americas. For the women, there's one more spot for Europe, one less for Oceania and two more for Asia.   Modern Pentathlon: Less quotas awarded through world rankings as a result of quota cuts.   Open Water Swimming: Introduction of world ranking qualifier.   Sailing: In general, seems to be more quotas awarded at the last chance regatta and less quotas at the World Championships   Shooting: One less quota handed out at each World Championship and the return on World Cup qualifiers.   Swimming: Olympic qualification and consideration times renamed to A and B standard. B standard is now 1% slower than the A standard compared to 0.5% in 2024. Stroke 50s have their own direct qualification events and have minimum time standards instead of A and B standards. Qualification times have been nuked again. B standard selection process has also changed.   Volleyball: New revised format. Continental championships first, then world championships followed by world rankings. In 2024, it was 3 qualification tournaments and then world rankings. Only 3 countries per gender will qualify by world rankings now compared to 5 in 2024
