Unfortunately, morals in politics are deteriorating and this applies to almost all countries- for example, the United States. Italy, unfortunately, pioneered in Europe this childishness and stupid things in politics during Berlusconi's time. But unfortunettly they'll probably capture it, just like Bakhmut, etc. Unfortunately, for the past three years, the Rus' have been slowly advancing, but they are gaining these territories—mainly in Donbas. The question is, where will they be permanently stopped? Ukraine's problem is that the eastern part is relatively flat, with no high mountains or other geographical barriers- there's the Dnieper River, but Ukraine can't retreat that far west. This reminds me a bit of the fighting on the Eastern Front in 1944-1945, when the Germans defended themselves valiantly in what is now Poland, but kept retreating. There were good fortifications in former East Prussia, plus good defensive terrain, and the Russians advanced very slowly, but eventually captured what they wanted. Fortunately, Ukraine isn't fighting on two fronts like the Germans were back then- because I'm sure that if the Germans had fought on one: east front, they would have certainly stopped the Russians somewhere- sure not in Berlin :P

 

I generally enjoy World War II history. I recently watched some interesting fight of the German battle for Stalingrad in 1942. There were 3 large factories there and the Germans almost captured them all. They very nearly captured the city, and by September 1942, Hitler was practically certain it would fall.

The answer for this question: russians are not going to stop. I know very well their geopolitical doctrines: they want all the territory of Ukraine (terrirtory and resources) to reestablish empire. I read Dugin and Dugin was in charge of the higher educations of russian diplomats. Having Ukrainian resources they would be able to go further west.

Our slow retreat helps to save soldiers and win time. Russians are using "meat attacks". We cannot do the same.

 

One little and important correction - they do not capture but destroy the cities. 

Ukrainian cities captured during Worl War II remained the cities. Bakhmut and others are totally ruined.

LOL Russia is the largest country in the world with mega resouces , they dont need yours, they just dont accept their cousins in the western camp which is dangerous , allowing more domination of USA

Okay, but they have to be stopped somewhere and without Donbas, there aren't any good defense lines or any geographical obstacles- mountains, rivers, etc.? However, retreating for west across the Dnieper River would be a disaster for Ukraine, as it would lose many large cities and almost all of its industry. There's practically nothing in western Ukraine- no mineral resources, etc. Ukraine can't withdraw far behind Donbas, and that's something that should be discussed with the USA and the UE, not just the same old slogans. I hope there's some concrete talk behind the scenes.

They always had the a lot of people and resources: the USSR was even larger than actually Russia, but the Germans almost defeated them in 1941. In my opinion, without a war in Western Europe, the Germans would have crushed the USSR.
