[OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

Someone shared another one of those political spectrum websites with me. I like this one because it doesn’t look for your political party/affiliation, it looks to see where you lie on the political spectrum. X axis is your economic spectrum, Y axis is your social spectrum.

Here’s a link: https://www.politicalcompass.org/

So according to this, I’m far-left in both my economic and social politics. I would be a socialist-anarchist. That’s very accurate. I want an economic system that benefits everyone, and a social system that gives people complete freedom (unless their freedom infringes upon others (which is why I’m not a total anarchist according to this measurement).

I wonder how unbiased it is when statement one is already something where it's basically "so if you answer this, ok you're in favor of humans, if you answer the other way, you're clearly against humanity" :p

And this one is rather tricky.

Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races.

I strongly agree when race is being seen in the way it's supposed to be seen (ie, humans as a whole, 'the human race'), but I strongly disagree when instead of race, they mean ethnicity :d

Because it says “races” and not “species”, I think it’s pretty clear which option they’re talking about :d

Yeah, but humans being divided in seperate races is a rather tricky issue in science, there's not a lot of consensus about. I'm assuming what they mean is not race, but ethnicity, because it's the most likely option, but they could have been clearer :p

I wish there was an option for 'Neutral', some things really are not just either one way or another..

People with serious inheritable disabilities should not be allowed to reproduce.

Yes, everyone should have this right, basically. But it is not an evil thing to at the very least discuss if it's humane to reproduce knowing there's a high risk of your child getting a serious disability entirely because of your genes...

Yes, I had a few questions where I could really use a “neutral” option too. Some of the questions were also worded tricky. Those are probably my two biggest critiques of their system.

A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system.

--

Yes, that can definitely be seen as an advantage, but saying 'Agree' is like saying you think a one-party state is a good system. I really don't think it is, but if one has to name an advantage of a system like that, it could be this.

It's like saying "An advantage of that annoying neighbour being killed is that he's not being annoying anymore." That might be true on a purely literal basis, but it doesn't at all outweigh the general disadvantags (like, you know, someone being murdered).

Awesome, now we get to statements that are not about opinions, but are simply a matter of seeing if you've got your facts straight :d

Astrology accurately explains many things.

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
