No Antoinette in 5000m :yikes::( At least Annouk made it...

What's going to happen with 500m? Ter Mors? She only finished 9th though.

We'll know tomorrow, the team will be announced at 12:00.

I'm curious how the Verbij/1000m situation is going to be solved. The most likely seems that he's given the spot with Thomas Krol as reserve, in case Verbij isn't healed in time.

Before the tournament, Jorien said she wouldn't skate the 500m if she would qualify for all distances, as she is also skating the 1.500m (and maybe the team pursuit) on the short track. Maybe now that she has not qualified on the 1.500m on the long track, she might consider skating the 500m anyways. However, the 500m is one day after the 1.500m shorttrack, the day before the qualifications of the team pursuit on the long track and two days before the team pursuit on the short track.

If not, Lotte van Beek is the next on the list, I guess (13th on the 500m this week). She also skated the 500m in Sochi, as not enough 500m specialists qualified due to the matrix back then either. However, as said, the 500m is the day before the team pursuit. As Jorien seems to be out of shape, she might be considered to join the team pursuit team as well as she was also part of the team in Sochi.

Guess we'll have to wait to find out what will happen.

As expected, Verbij gets the 1000m spot, Thomas Krol misses out. And no Olympics for Letitia de Jong, as now confirmed.

Oh and somewhat surprisingly, if Verbij isn't healed in time, not Krol, but Otterspeer will be added to the team.

Do you have any idea why that is?

No idea. It's not like Otterspeer has a bigger medal chance than Krol...I mean, both are outsiders, but not much more. Then again, it's about the 1000m only and there Otterspeer might have a bit better chance. But Krol beat him fair and square..

Because it's Teletext, not much room for improvement apart from more colours, but luckily Dutch NOS doesn't use a million colours like they do on Belgian or German (or Dutch commercial) TV :p

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
