1:18.00 is the minimum time?, she doesnt have chances.......

Looks like there's no chance in 1000m, but maybe in 500m.

Yes, it's minimum time to qualify, but maybe she or/and other skaters will qualify with weaker time. There are 32 quotas in women 1000m race, maybe not everyone will have better result than 1:18:00

There are 37 athletes with sub 1:18 just this world cup, and presumably more people will go under that in SLC. I don't think the time has to be achieved at a world cup either?

Also it's just a minimum time, you have to be in the top 20 of the world cup or the top 12 of the world cup time ranking (excluding the top 20 in the world cup) (with the caveat that only the top 3 athletes per country count). It's unlikely you would qualify with a 1:18 flat.

A non-Japanese winner at last. :p

7th place for Huang is surely the best ever winter sport WC result for :TPE.

Ya, it's a very impressive result from Yu-Ting Huang. She's not that young (30) so I'm not sure how much further she can go, but this is just another example that if good inline speed skaters transition to speed skating they can do very well even if their country doesn't have a speed skating tradition. Wouldn't be surprised to see more good speed skaters come out of Taiwan (and Colombia).

If it is, it's not by a huge margin (they already had an 11th place in speed skating).

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.

    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
