Shiffrin leads after slalom run of St. Moritz alpine combined

Early morning wind and dense fog (known locally as the "Maloja Schlange") hung over the super-G track at St. Moritz on Friday, forcing the jury and organizers to swap the customary program for the ladies' alpine combined. The slalom run was scheduled for 10:00 and the super-G for 13:00 with the hopes of the weather clearing in time for the afternoon speed run.

Despite a bobble in the slalom, American Mikaela Shiffrin powered through the fog at the start and turned on the jets toward the finish line to lead Swiss Wendy Holdener, the reigning World Champion in alpine combined, by 0.39 seconds after the first run. Holdener's teammate and World Championship silver medalist Michelle Gisin skied the third fastest slalom run at 1.21 seconds off the lead pace.

An exciting run of super-G wasn't mean to be on Friday. The dense fog lowered to the bottom of the slope but remained put despite a rescheduled start time of 14:00. The jury together with the organizers made the decision to cancel the super-G run just after 13:00 when the fog was still thick during course inspection for the athletes.

The regularly scheduled super-G for Saturday will take place at 10:45 CET. Upon completion of Saturday's super-G race, the results will be used to calculate the alpine combined from Friday.

They will use tomorrows scheduled Super-G for the Alpine Combined too

Apparently they changed the decision during the evening meeting and the race is officially cancelled. Still not news about further eventual reschedulling of the event.

The regularly scheduled super-G for Saturday was set to take place at 10:45 CET. Upon completion of Saturday's super-G race, organizers hoped the results could be used to calculate the alpine combined from Friday. But due to financial reasons and the difficulties displaying the show to spectators, the organizer and National Ski Association announced at the evening team captains meeting that it would not be possible to complete a double race on Saturday to finalize the the alpine combined results. Saturday's super-G will count only as a standalone race as originally scheduled.

Further details about any possibility to reschedule the alpine combined will be released when available.

Zubčić back to his old eternal struggle. :d

And on top of that Dadić had horrible run in today's sprint WC in Davos... It's almost certain that he won't be able to keep two quota places for us. Gotta love the winter sports. :p

    • Alpine skiing also we have a lot of problems: the men's team is very weak and has been winning a few podiums a season for several years and the our best skier- Dominik Paris is 35. We still have a strong women's team but 3 of the 4 leaders are over 30 (Goggia, Brignone, Curtoni) and Bassino is 28. Another 2 years and we will have the same problem as the men's. There is basically no cross-country skiing without Pellegrino for many years, biathlon is based on 2 individuals with one of them has a 35 years. Vittozzi's injury was enough and we haven`t a single podium this season after 3 stages of the World Cup. As for 1 year to the home games the situation isn`t optimistic.
    • Hail to the Reds... Commanders. First time since 1991 Washington QB has thrown 5 TD passes in a game (which isn't all that improbable in the modern game alas Dan Snyder...)
    • Italy is much better in alpine skiing, in The end all Nations have a Limited Talent Pool. Norway is far better than Sweden/Finland in Cross-Country skiing, alpine skiing and Biathlon, but Sweden/Finland are far better in ice Hockey.  Great Britain wins far more medals than Germany At Summer olympics, but GB is also inexistant in Winter Sports and Most popular Team Sports (Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Ich Hockey).

On The Mens side multiple Athletes (Perrot, Giacomel, Uldal) have already done it.   E.
