Alpine Skiing FIS World Cup 2020 - 2021

Nasty, nasty crash for Italian Alexander Prast :(

His helmet even flew off, luckily he didn't have a significant hit on his head after that, but his knee seems....not good.

"Achieved 3 straight victories in 4 WC races."

What's the added value of the 4 there? I mean, 3 straight victories are by definition done in 3 WC races, aren't they? Why is FIS trying to undersell that impressive stat? :d

These stats are as useless, the same as these overtaking probability numbers shown in F1. Must be some crazy Americans working on the TV graphics.

:POL Maryna Gasienica-Daniel finished 21st which is a great result after a big mistake in the 2nd run. We are light years behind everyone in alpine skiing, even our neighbours Czech Republic & Slovakia :p

Still Petra wrote some history today. Apparently Vlhová is the first ever female skier to win more than 400 points in WC after 5 first races of the season. The previous record holders was Anita Wachter in 1993 with 360 points after 4 races but did not won any point in the 5th race and Mikaela Shiffrin with exactly 400 points after 5 races in the previous season.

but that's only recent history...

the real target was to tie Marie-Therese Nadig's 5 wins in the first 6 races of the season (that's the true record to be improved in the category "most wins to start a season"), which of course is not possible anymore...

True. So better to say according to nowadays scoring system then.

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places.
