I think it's more a combination of luck (there is a lot of variance in hockey) and a bunch of players who really gelled and played better than the sum of their parts.

 

On paper Canada wasn't anywhere near the best team in the tournament. Very weird to win the Hockey worlds in what is, unquestionably, a big upset.
