the brutal fuck is happening to :ITA:hairpull:

15 players tested positive before the departure yesterday... They had to select alternate players, they travelled to Riga with only  23 players and without bigger stars, for example the goalie Damiano Clara has 16 years !

They had to remove from the roster players like Andreas Bernard, Gianluca Vallini , Marco De Filippo, Jan Pavlu, Ivan Tauferer,
Luca Zanatta, D. Kostner, Morini, Insam, M. Marcheti, Alberga, Mantiger, Traversa, S. Kostner, Ramoser and Lembacher

Jesus christ. RIP Italy

I told you...better stay home...

the team travelling to Riga is not much better than China playing only with their native guys at next year's Olympics...

the triple digit scores are coming...:yikes:  :hairpull:

my only hope is that also all the alternate players would be stopped at the border and not allowed to enter Latvia...:fingers:

Why's Team Russia as Team R.O.C?

Spoiler

Following the Court of Arbitration in Sport (CAS) ruling in the case WADA v. RUSADA and with the IIHF being a WADA signatory, changes will be implemented at the venues in the appearance of the ice hockey teams coming from Russia at senior IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships as well as the Olympic Games.

The CAS ruling includes several orders for the two-year period of 17 December 2020 to 16 December 2022 for the participation of teams from Russia including that Russian athletes and support personnel can participate in the beforementioned events under certain requirements including that the uniform worn does not contain the flag or crest of the Russian Federation, the Russian national anthem is not played or sung at any official event venue, and the flag of the Russian Federation (current or historical) may not be displayed at the venue by the organizer, athletes and support staff.

The time period of the CAS ruling includes the men’s and women’s ice hockey tournaments of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, the 2021 and 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, and the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.

The CAS ruling will be implemented as follows at the venues:

  • The team will be called ROC, the abbreviation of the Russian Olympic Committee
  • The ROC emblem with no wording will be used as flag
  • The game jersey may use the existing jersey colours but may not include the flag, crest or other symbols of the Russian Federation but instead the ROC emblem
  • In post-game and medal ceremonies, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is played in place of the anthem of the Russian Federation

The game jersey for the upcoming events affected by the CAS ruling will look as in the picture above. A similar jersey is planned for the Olympic ice hockey tournaments in Beijing 2022.

:GBR will have to do without a coach.  Pete Russell decided not to travel to Riga and preferred to stay at home with his family. The team will be led by his assistants Adam Keefe and Corey Neilson.

Russell coached the German second-league Freiburg this season at the club level, returned to Britain after the recent end of the season in Germany and decided to stay at home for family reasons. "My family has consistently supported me throughout my career. But now I haven't been with my wife and daughter for nine months, which is a very long time. It would be difficult to leave them again after two days," Russell told the British Hockey Association website. "I talked about the whole situation with the leadership of the national team and they supported me in my decision. It was not easy, the British national team means a lot to me. But Adam and Corey are top coaches and they will definitely be able to lead the team well at the championship."

GB Hockey federation must be the best Employer on earth:hyper:

    • Alpine skiing also we have a lot of problems: the men's team is very weak and has been winning a few podiums a season for several years and the our best skier- Dominik Paris is 35. We still have a strong women's team but 3 of the 4 leaders are over 30 (Goggia, Brignone, Curtoni) and Bassino is 28. Another 2 years and we will have the same problem as the men's. There is basically no cross-country skiing without Pellegrino for many years, biathlon is based on 2 individuals with one of them has a 35 years. Vittozzi's injury was enough and we haven`t a single podium this season after 3 stages of the World Cup. As for 1 year to the home games the situation isn`t optimistic.
    • Hail to the Reds... Commanders. First time since 1991 Washington QB has thrown 5 TD passes in a game (which isn't all that improbable in the modern game alas Dan Snyder...)
    • Italy is much better in alpine skiing, in The end all Nations have a Limited Talent Pool. Norway is far better than Sweden/Finland in Cross-Country skiing, alpine skiing and Biathlon, but Sweden/Finland are far better in ice Hockey.  Great Britain wins far more medals than Germany At Summer olympics, but GB is also inexistant in Winter Sports and Most popular Team Sports (Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Ich Hockey).
    • Thanks, great stat! Tannheimer wont turn 20 until August 2025, so she has The whole Season To Join Kristiansen and Neuner. Too Bad that she was ill this week. I think Galmace Paulin and Tänglander could also do it. I think Grotian (born 2004) is The First female Biathlete born after 1999 To make a World Cup Podium. On The Mens side multiple Athletes (Perrot, Giacomel, Uldal) have already done it.   E. Öberg was 22 and a half when she First won.  Dahlmeier was 21 and a half.   Edit: Grotian only narrowly missed The Podium in The Individual at The 2024 World Championships when she was still  19 year old.
