This thread will keep track of NOCs not yet qualified and suggest sports and events in which they could qualify their first athletes. Tripartite athletes do not count, but the nations will be noted if they do have one. If someone has a suggestion don't hesitate to say so. I am quite lenient so unlikely is okay, impossible is not.

Chad should have a chance in men's marathon. Their runner, Ahmat Abdou-Daoud, had 2:19:34 last year. Needs only to find 34 seconds.

Thanks, IAAF doesn't post "almost qualified" times for marathons anymore so it is hard to find them.

Do you know when the first tripartitie quota will be awarded?

There's no specific date, but the first ones will probably be awarded in April.

As for shooting the tripartite is quite simple. Right now there are 20 tripartite nations with MQS fighting for 24 spots. The main question is whether or not the nation applied for one.

For :TOG Togo, they actually didn't enter a competitor in the category you listed (Men's -60), but they do have the third seeded boxer in Men's -75. http://d152tffy3gbaeg.cloudfront.net/2016/02/Boxing2016-AIBA-African-Olympic-Qualification-Event-Mens-75KG-Draw-Sheet.pdf

Thanks, sometimes athletes that could qualify drop out due to lack of funds.

Media in Malawi report that they will have 2 taekwondo athletes in Rio. Their only entrant in the African qualifiers didn't make it, so these must be tripartite places or something (if true of course)?

    • Hope so (for my adopted country, Norway, that is). Torino 2006 was the first Winter Olympics I followed closely and it was nothing short of a disaster for Norway. Strangely enough, that was actually the reason I became an avid fan of Norwegian winter sports and have been ever since. As for my actual home country, Greece, a medal for Ginnis in slalom (alpine skiing) would be a miracle.
