That's about it.

But folks on here tend to over-react a lot... many of the ones overreacting now were also convinced Paris was a lost cause half-way thru too. Touch grass people, or failing that, throw a snowball

It's really just a scheduling. Canada is actually right on track for predicted medals so far. Even with mixed curling, a lot of people did not pick Canada to medal anyway. The only thing on my end is that without meaningful curling in the next couple of days, it's pretty dry for Canada. We also didn't have a women's hockey game (postponed), and some injuries have put a damper on things, too. Things really start to pick up for us on Thursday (Women's SS 5000m, Men's moguls, men's snowboard cross, women's snowboard halfpipe, a bunch of short track, and the first men's hockey game).

Yeah, I have 10 expected medals in the first 8 days, and 16 in the back half. For whatever reason we seem like we're often a week two team in the Olympics

2008 is probably the best example of this. If we exclude medals awarded later due to doping, Canada won ZERO medals through the first week and then 18 medals the next 9 days.

Living through that was brutal. It was the early days of relying on the internet and I remember running to the TV and turning it on to see if the medal counter in the bottom right hand corner had been updated with anything. Then there was a gold silver and a bronze within an hour, so much so my eyes thought it still said 0 0 0.

Yeah, 2008 was brutal. I felt bad for the staff and athletes, the media were all over them... but it was really just a quirk of scheduling. Our swimming was in rough shape, and there just wasn't much else we had going for us that first week. Then Huynh won, and the rowing finals went, and we were off to the races

But even 2010. I have a clip of Brian Williams doing this long winded monologue halfway thru about how the results were a disaster, and there needed to be a major overhaul, and federal inquest... and a week later we're covered in gold and everyone is over the moon.
