2026 Winter Olympics - Day 1 (February 7)

I feel like today went about as expected - some highs and some lows. I wasn’t necessarily expecting a medal, so the bronze was a wonderful surprise. The figure skating team advancing, top 10 in downhill and 2 moving onto the FS slope style final were all highlights. I’m mostly disappointed by the curling and ski jumping; Abigail must be mad to not be in the top 8 and I’m not sure how/if Canada can move on in the curling.

Don't forget the 22nd placing for Canada in the Cross Country for Mackie - a promising debut.

It’ll get really complicated if US or Italy lose tomorrow, but I’m not going to calculate that too much work.

Canada takes on Sweden, Korea, and Switzerland in their last 3, at 3-3. We’ll likely need to win out, or at the very least win the Sweden/Switzerland matches for head-to-head purposes, we’re dead last in DSC by a fair bit.
3-0, will qualify

2-1, depends. If we beat Sweden and Switzerland but lose to Korea, then yes we’re guaranteed to qualify. If we beat one of the two but win against Korea, then we need to hope the team that won against us loses 1-2 games and it all comes down to head-to-head or DSC (we want Norway and the team that we beat at 5-4)

1-2, probably not. We need to at least beat either Sweden or Switzerland, and wait for other results to go our way and get through on H2H
Anything worse, no.

I’ll go over scenarios sometime on Monday on the curling thread
