Milano Cortina 2026 - General Discussion

Glad you were wrong on this 🤩. Almost the definition of a team event.  No US jumper had the highest scores, but as a team, they came through. Swiss men had two highest scores, China had highest woman’s score.

Yes, me too!  I was just judging based on World Cup scores and difficulty of planned jumps.  I also didn't realize we were the reigning champs.  But yes, makes you appreciate the team aspect.  I thought Australia was about to pull off an incredible medal.

A great day for US!

Ok, so we didn't win the Bronze in curling, but a 2, 4, 5 finish for our curlers this year is quite respectable!

Likewise, a 4th place finish in the SkiMo relays shows much promise.

Kaillie Humphries with the bronze in 2-Woman Bobsled, as did Mia Manganello in the Mass Start.

And then there was the (surprising, at least for me) gold in Mixed Aerials!

11 golds total!  Highest ever!  And we're third for most ever medals at the WOG.  We're guaranteed one more tomorrow, and we'll see if Jessie Diggins or one of the Halfpipers can snag another one to tie second (34, at SLC in 2002).

And then a beautiful night at the figure skating arena for the gala.

Tomorrow, it's time to close things out:

04:00 - W CC 50km free

04:40 - W Halfpipe Finals (hopefully)

05:05 - W Curling GMM, for anyone interested

06:15 - 4-Man Bobsled finals, AKA German sweep, I'm fairly certain.

08:10 - The event we've all been waiting for: :CAN vs. :USA for Gold in M Ice Hockey.  Go :USA !

And then unfortunately close it all out at 14:30.

Has been a great games.  Let's finish strong!

(BTW: I wish there a place where it was just USA people talking about the Olympics...gets kinda nasty out there in the main forum towards us some time.  Maybe I'll spend more time in here. :)  I understand our politics are contentious in the world environment, but for me, Olympics are about celebrating the athletes and how well they do.  As the ads say on TV...for two weeks, we're all on the same team...and I actually think that this is the prevailing sentiment for most of us.)

Agreed Clemsonbeav, not always a friendly place on the open forum.  These have been a good games.  I’m doing terrible in the prediction contest as I didn’t do too much research. I am pretty spot on with the USA medals…even with the few disappointments, the surprises have offset them.   I was so glad to see Stoddard snag that Bronze in short track.  her and KSG are really good and these games have not been a good showing of that.

Hello guys, I have read this comment and I'm sorry you feel this way. I have had no time to read all comments around all threads, but I hope if you read something bad about your country in the future you could report the post so I (or another moderator) could have a look and delete or edit the comment.

You are right about the contentious politics @clemsonbeav and some people are just not able to understand politics has nothing to do with sports, participating athletes and users' forums. And I think many people tend to support the "underdogs" and being USA the best nation in the world in sports lots of people support other or smaller countries, as they see :USA winning lots of medals everywhere.

But again, I hope nothing too bad has been posted about your country and if that happens I apologize and I feel free to report those posts. And I also hope this will not prevent you guys from taking part in the "open forum", it's very interesting to read your comments and point of view and I'm happy that finally we have some US users on Totallympics, because for many years we have lacked them and it was a shame not to have the best sports country in the world represented on Totallympics.

You will also be hosting the next Olympics and I hope you will be able to keep this club active not only during the Olympics but also in the lead up, following all sport sport events with other US users both here in the club and around the forum.

Being USA the host of the next Olympics you will have an easy path in most of the sports' qualifications, but you can still qualify for extra quota and follow the progress of your athletes and teams towards the Olympics.

With you two, @bmo, @Quaker2001, @Book and @Triplecast who have been active on a daily basis and followed with us the Olympics, and many other US users who could read this and other users who could come back, you can keep this club active all year around and make it a great place for Olympic sport fans who follow sports not only during the 16 Olympic days but all year round.

I think this club is becoming more active thanks to the amazing job of @clemsonbeav and I hope you will keep up the amazing job in the next months :yes

Don't miss the Best of Milan Cortina that aired right after the Closing Ceremonies...it's on Peacock.  A great way to put a bow on these games.  Somebody was cutting onions while I was watching...
