Team GB in 2026

A poorly planned itinerary meant that I ended up with a 9-hour layover in Dubai and as I didn't need all that time to pick up the duty free, I have mapped out the year ahead across most of the summer sports. 

 

There's still a couple of sports which don't seem to have published their full calendar, so expect that there will be some updates in the next few weeks.

2026 Week 1 (1-Jan - 11-Jan) Events:

 

A good mix of events to ease us into the new year...

 

Badminton:

PETRONAS Malaysia Open (6-11 Jan) - We should see quite a few Brits in action. Kirsty Gilmour is expected to compete in the Women's Singles whilst Ben Lane and Sean Vendy are listed in the Men's Doubles. Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance will be in the Women's Doubles with MacPherson also competing in the Mixed Doubles with Alexander Dunn.

 

YONEX Estonian International (8-11 Jan) - Currently pending the details of the draw, but we should have Ethan Rose competing in the Men's Singles, whilst Samuel Jones will team up with Oliver Butler and Josh Taylor with Evan Kenny for the Men's Doubles. 

 

 

Equestrian - Dressage:

FEI Dressage World Cup: Wellington (7-11 Jan) - Pending confirmation of the entry list.

 

FEI Dressage World Cup: Basel (8-11 Jan) - Pending confirmation of the entry list but would expect a couple of Brits to be competing. 

 

Equestrian - Jumping:

Longines FEI World Cup: Basel (8-11 Jan) - Pending confirmation of the entry list but would expect a couple of Brits to be in action. 

 

 

Fencing:

A total of 8 different Fencing events in the calendar this week across Junior and Seniors. There's no Brits in the Junior World Cup for Foil or Sabre, but we do have six athletes competing in the women's Junior Epee World Cup - Olivia Eadie, Maisie Everett, Katy Hawthorne, Kseniya Kushtan, Emma Mitzova and Sophia Pickering. 

 

FIE Epee World Cup (Individual & Team) (8-11 Jan) - Cador Beautyman is the sole Brit competing in Fujairah.

 

FIE Foil World Cup (Individual & Team) (9-11 Jan) - Georgia Gardner, Bronwen Granville, Amelie Tsang and Sophie Tsang will compete in Hong Kong in both individual and team events.

 

FIE Foil World Cup (Individual & Team) (9-11 Jan) - 12 British fencers will be competing in Paris. Harry Bird, Louis Guennou, Jake Hurst, Maxwell Jones, William Lonsdale, Callum Penman, Rafael Rhys Pollitt and Oliver Strange will be competing in the individual event. 

 

Jamie Cook, Joe Donaghue, David Sosnov and David Williams are competing in both the individual and team events. 

 

FIE Sabre Grand Prix (9-11 Jan) - 10 British fencers will be competing in Tunis. Maria Chart, Keira D-Sallows, Caitlin Maxwell and Nicole Saunders in the women's individual whilst Liam Croft, Max Cromie, Barnaby Halliwell, Ian Ho, Eiger Swinscow and Jonathan Webb will be in the men's event. 

 

 

Shooting:

29th SKIRCA Open & Trzin Walter Cup (9-11 Jan) - Although it is an international event, it tends to be mostly central and eastern European nations who complete. I'm not expecting any Brits to be taking part. 

 

 

Squash:

Rich Venus Karachi Open (6-11 Jan) - Marwan ElShorbagy is the 2nd seed and has a bye in the first round. Likewise, Mohamed ElShorbagy has a bye in the first round as the number 4 seed. Curtis Malik is also in the draw and will take on  Ryunosuke Tsukue in the first round for the right to take on top seed  Karim Gawad. 

 

In the women's draw, Lucy Turmel has drawn  Tsz-Wing Tong in the first round and Torrie Malik is up against  Menna Hamed. If they're able to come through these matches, they would face 5th seed  Nada Abbas and 6th seed  Rowan Elaraby respectively.

 

 

Tennis:

United Cup (2-11 Jan) -  have been drawn against  and . Their first tie is against Japan on 4-Jan followed by Greece on 5-Jan. Assuming everyone is healthy, Emma Raducanu will face Naomi Osaka and Maria Sakkari in the singles whilst in light of Jack Draper's withdrawal, Billy Harris will face Shintaro Mochizuki and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Billy Harris, Mimi Xu and Olivia Nicholls are also in the squad. 

 

ATP Bank of China Hong Kong Open (5-11 Jan) - Previously it looked like Cameron Norrie was competing here but he's now listed in Brisbane so it's possible that there won't be any Brits in the draw. 

 

Brisbane International (5-11 Jan) - It appears that Cameron Norrie is competing in Brisbane rather than Hong Kong as previously advised. Jacob Fearnley is the 6th seed in the qualifying draw and will face off against  Wild Card Dane Sweeny. 

 

ASB Classic (5-11 Jan) - Sonay Kartel and Fran Jones will be lining up in the main draw in Auckland whilst Katie Boulter will also be joining them having received a wild card.

 

Sonay Kartel will start against a qualifier. Fran Jones has interesting first round match up against Sloane Stephens whilst Katie Boulter gets a pretty nasty draw as she'll be up against 7th seed Wang Xinyu. 

 

 

Table Tennis:

WTT Champions Doha (7-11 Jan) - Unlikely to be any Brits competing in either the men's or women's events.

 

WTT Feeder Vadodara (7-11 Jan) - Unlikely to be any Brits competing in either the men's or women's events.

2026 Week 1 (1-Jan - 11-Jan) Results:

 

 

Badminton:

PETRONAS Malaysia Open (6-11 Jan) -

Women's Singles:  Kirsty Gilmour lost in the first round to 2nd seed  Wang Zhi Yi 21-17 21-09

Men's Doubles: A good start to the year for Ben Lane and Sean Vendy.  They took out  Choong Hon Jian / Muhammad Haikal 16-21 21-16 21-15 in the first round before taking out 7th seeds  Goh Sze Fei / Nur Izzuddin 21-13 21-17. In the quarter finals, the Brits dispatched  Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi 22-20 21-19. Although they pushed the top seed  Kim Won Ho / Seo Seung Jae all the way, they couldn't quite get it over the line for a place in the final ultimately losing 21-8 11-21 18-21

Women's Doubles: Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance went out in the first round, losing to 3rd seeds  Kim Hye Jeong / Hong Hee Yong 21-12 22-20.

Mixed Doubles: Julie MacPherson and Alexander Dunn fell in the first round, going down to a 21-16 21-10 loss against 6th seeds  Guo Xin Wa / Chen Fang Hui.

 

 

YONEX Estonian International (8-11 Jan) -

Men's Singles:  Ethan Rose was unfortunately forced to withdrew from the tournament before it got underway.

James Robertson was the only Brit to navigate qualifying and earn a place in the main draw. He lost in the first round to 8th seed  Mads Christophersen 21-13 21-14.

Men's Singles:  Leona Lee was due to be the top seed in the qualifying draw but was promoted to the main draw before her first match. She was defeated in the first round by  Rujula Ramu 21-9 21-13

Men's Doubles: Oliver Butler and Samuel Jones were the top seed and safely came through their first-round match against  Evan Kenny / Josh Taylor 21-14 21-8 before overcoming  pairing Karl Kert / Tauri Kilk 21-12 21-10 to progress to the quarter final where they went down to a 21-12 10-21 19-21 defeat at the hands of 6th seeds  Natan Begga / Gregoire Deschamp. 

 

 

Equestrian - Dressage:

FEI Dressage World Cup: Basel (8-11 Jan) - There were no Brits competing. 

 

Equestrian - Jumping:

Longines FEI World Cup: Basel (8-11 Jan) - Donald Whitaker and Sameh El Dahan are competing in Sunday's World Cup event. 

 

 

Fencing:

FIE Epee Junior World Cup - Best result of the week goes to Tristan Lumineau who finished 13th in the  Basel event ahead of Cador Beautyman in 60th. In the team event  finished in 14th place.

 

FIE Epee Junior World Cup - Kseniya Kushtan was the only Brit competing in  Udine and finished in 53rd place.  

 

FIE Epee World Cup (Individual & Team) (8-11 Jan) - Cador Beautyman was the sole Brit competing in Fujairah and returns with a pretty creditable 41st place finish.

 

FIE Foil World Cup (Individual & Team) (9-11 Jan) -

Amelie Tsang was the highest placed of the Brits finishing in 100th place (out of 198 competitors). Bronwen Granville finished in 147th, Georgia Gardner was 159th and  Sophie Tsang was tied for 163rd.

 

In the team event  was drawn against  in the first round and was defeated 45-34. 

 

FIE Foil World Cup (Individual & Team) (9-11 Jan) - 12 British fencers will be competing in Paris.

 

Jamie Cook was top performer for the Brits witha 40th place finish. David Sosnov was 99th, Rafael Rhys Pollitt was 111th with Jake Hurst finishing in 119th, just ahead of David Williams in 120th. Harry Bird was 166th, William Lonsdale finished 182nd with Joe Donaghue in 197th. Callum Penman and Louis Guennou were tied for 201st place. Maxwell Jones finished in a tie for 245th place and finally, Oliver Strange was tied for 280th. 

 

Jamie Cook, Joe Donaghue, David Sosnov and David Williams are competing in the team event on Sunday. They are the 15th seed and will take on 18th seed  in the round of 32. If they can come through that, they would likely face  in the round of 16. 

 

FIE Sabre Grand Prix (9-11 Jan) - 10 British fencers will be competing in Tunis.

None of the British women progressed to the knockout rounds with Keira D-Sallows providing the best result with a tied 88th followed by Caitlin Maxwell in 92nd, Maria Chart in 95th and Nicole Saunders in 141st.

 

Likewise, none of the 6 British men could make the final 64. Jonathan Webb was our top finisher at 98th, Max Cromie finished 131st, Eiger Swinscow was 157th just ahead of Ian Ho who tied for 158th. Liam Croft was 164th and finally, Barnaby Halliwell finished in a tie for 165th. 

 

 

Squash:

Rich Venus Karachi Open (6-11 Jan) - 

Marwan ElShorbagy is the 2nd seed and had a bye in the first round. In round 2 he dispatched  Toufik Mekhalfi 11-4 11-7 11-5. His competition ended in the quarterfinal when he lost to 6th seed  Aly Abou Eleinen 11-7 11-1 11-9.

 

Mohamed ElShorbagy also had a bye in the first round as the number 4 seed, and he took out  Karim El Hammamy 9-11 11-8 11-8 11-7 in round 2 to set up quarterfinal against  Noor Zaman. The Brit advanced to the semifinals with a 11-2 11-8 6-11 8-11 11-9 victory. In the semifinal, he would ultimately lose to the 6th seed  Aly Abou Eleinen 11-4 11-8 11-6.

 

Curtis Malik withdrew from the tournament before his first-round match.

 

After various withdrawals in the women's event, Lucy Turmel was promoted to the 7th seed and was given a bye in the first round. in round 2, she defeated fellow Brit Torrie Malik 11-9 11-2 11-7 after Malik had previous beaten  Menna Hamed 13-15 10-12 11-9 11-6 11-5 in the first round. Turmel's tournament ended in the quarter finals with a 13-11 11-7 11-9 defeat to 2nd seed  Sivasangari Subramaniam. 

 

 

Tennis:

United Cup (2-11 Jan) -  failed to progress from the group stage after victory over  was followed by defeat by .

 

Emma Raducanu was rested for the match against  because she wasn't fully fit. Katie Swan stepped in and put up valiant effort against Naomi Osaka but was ultimately soundly beaten 7-6 6-1. Billy Harris came through 7-6 6-3 against Shintaro Mochizuki which left the tie in the hands of mixed double pairing Neal Skupski and Olivia Nicholls. It went to a 10-point tie-break, but the Brits came through 7-5 4-6 10-7 against Nao Hibino and Yasutaka Uchiyama.

 

Billy Harris was able to push Stefanos Tsitsipas all the way before going down to defeat in a final set tiebreak. The final result was 6-4 1-6 6-7. In her first match since October, Raducanu looked a step slow but would have gone into the match against Maria Sakkari knowing she had never lost to the Greek but unfortunately a great effort wasn't enough to keep the tie alive as the Brit lost 3-6 6-3 1-6 to put the Greeks through to the quarterfinals. In the dead doubles rubber, Skupski and Nicholls again teamed up against Despina Papamichail and Stefanos Sakellaridis and the Brits needed another 10-point tie-break before they emerged with the win - 6-2 3-6 10-4

 

Brisbane International (5-11 Jan) -

7th seed Cameron Norrie seemed to struggle early on in his first-round match against  Ugo Humbert but was able to come through 1-6 7-6 7-5. Unfortunately, he was unable to repeat the escape routine in the second round where despite appearing the stronger player, he went down to 6-7 6-4 4-6 defeat at the hands of  Aleksandar Kovacevic

Jacob Fearnley was the 6th seed in the qualifying draw but lost out in the first round 1-6 6-7 to  Wild Card Dane Sweeny. 

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool are the top seeds in the men's doubles, and they will be competing later today for a place in the final having come through 6-7 6-4 10-0 against  pairing of Tommy Paul and Ethan Quinn to progress to the quarter finals where they then received a walkover when  Sebastian Korda and Brandon Nakashima were forced to withdraw. They secured their place in the final with a 6-3 6-3 win over  Tomas Machac and Matej Vocel. 

 

ASB Classic (5-11 Jan) -

Some pretty solid results from the British women in Auckland this week.

Sonay Kartel reached the quarterfinals after recording wins over 6th seed  Janice Tjen 6-1 6-7 6-3 in the first round which was followed up by a 6-3 6-1 win over  Ella Seidel. In the QF, she pushed the top seed  Elina Svitolina all the way but came up just short, losing 4-6 7-6 6-7.  

Fran Jones had arguably the best win of her career in the first round with a 7-5 2-6 6-4 win over second seed  Emma Navarro. Despite battling some injury issues, she followed that with a 1-6 6-4 6-1 win over  Ella Seidel. Jones would ultimately retire in her quarterfinal whilst trailing 7th seed  Xinyu Wang 6-4 4-3. 

Katie Boulter will be glad to be back to winning ways as she held her nerve to serve out a 6-3 6-3 win over  Yuliia Starodubtseva. She then lost in the second round 7-5 6-4 to  Elina Svitolina.

Badminton:

YONEX-Sunrise India Open (12-18 Jan) -

Women's Singles: Kirsty Gilmour is drawn against  Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt in the first round.

Men's Doubles: Ben Lane and Sean Vendy will be up against  Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan.

Women's Doubles: Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance will face  Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa.

Mixed Doubles: Alexander Dunn and Julie MacPherson have been drawn against 7th Seeds  Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet.

 

YONEX Estonian International (8-11 Jan) -

 

Men's Singles: Ethan Rose is the 6th Seed and will face  Jeppe Bruun. With a handful of Brits competing in the qualifying draw, we could see more make it to the main draw.

 

Women's Singles:   There are no women's with direct entry to the main draw, but possible that Ann Mok could come through qualifying.

 

Men's Doubles: Oliver Butler and Samuel Jones are the top seed and have a bye to the round of 16 where they could face countrymen Benjamin Horseman and Jia Bin Lee if they can overcome the  pairing of Flaaten/Osthassel. Likewise, Robin Harper and Harry Wakefield have a bye in the first round as the 4th seeds.  Alex Green and Zach Russ will face a qualifier.

 

Mixed Doubles: Samuel Jones will team up with Lizzie Tolman and will face  Ekman/Hallberg in the first round. 

 

 

Cycling - Road:

Santos Tour Down Under (17-19 Jan) - Plenty of Brits in the start list including Alice Towers, Lauren Dickson, Flora Perkins, Claire Steels, Isobel Carys Lloyd, Josie Nelson and Becky Storrie.

 

 

Equestrian - Jumping:

Longines FEI World Cup: Leipzig (14-18 Jan) - Sameh El Dahan is the only Brit listed as competing. 

 

 

Fencing:

4 more Fencing events in the calendar week for the Juniors.

 

FIE Epee Junior World Cup (Individual & Team) (16-18 Jan) - Cador Beautyman is the sole Brit competing in  Manama.

 

FIE Foil Junior World Cup (Individual & Team) (16-18 Jan) - 9 British women could be competing in  Tblisi - Layla Lang, Abigael McVinnie, Sophie Mehra, Claire Sosnov and Indigo Zaffino are all listed for the individual event whilst Rachael Adams, Megan Elliott, Isabella Johnson and Zoe Wagstaff are listed to compete in both individual and team event.

 

FIE Foil Junior World Cup (Individual & Team) (16-18 Jan) - 12 British fencers will be competing in  Madrid. Sam Barrass, Aarav Chaudhari, Ashley Crees, Luca Florea, James Havard, Alexander James, Finn Keen and Yaqub Wagdi are listed for the individual event whilst Mohammed Belbouab, David Kelly, Callum Penman and David Sosnov are listed to compete in both the individual and team event.

 

FIE Sabre Junior World Cup (16-18 Jan) - Keira D-Sallows and Coco Guven are both listed as entrants for the  Boston event. 

 

 

Golf:

PGA Sony Open (15-18 Jan) - Dan Brown, Harry Hall, Robert MacIntyre, John Parry, Aaron Rai, and Jordan Smith are all expected to be competing in Hawaii 

 

DPT - Dubai Invitational (15-18 Jan) - Tommy Fleetwood, Paul Waring, Grant Forrest, Connor Syme, Richard Mansell, Dan Bradbury, Matt Wallace, Ewen Ferguson, Daniel Gavins, Calum Hill, Danny Willett, Andy Sullivan and Marcus Armitage are all included in the starting list

 

 

Squash:

Squash in the Land 2026 (13-18 Jan) - Joel Makin is the 2nd seed and has a bye in the first round. Likewise, Greg Lobban, as 5th seed will also have a bye to second round. Nathan Lake is drawn to face countryman Perry Malik in the first round with the winner to take on 6th seed  Auguste Dussourd.

In the women's draw, Jasmine Hutton is the third seed and has a bye in the first round. So too does Georgia Adderley as the 7th seed. Lucy Beecroft is drawn against  Hayley Ward; Grace Gear is drawn against  Dixon B Hill and Alicia Mead faces  Nicole Bunyan. Sarah Nghiem's opponent is currently unknown. 

 

 

DR21 Motor City Men's Open (13-18 Jan) - Marwan ElShorbagy is the 2nd seed and has a bye in the first round. He will face either Sam Todd or Simon Herbert in round 2. Adrian Waller is drawn against  Salman Khalil whilst Tom Walsh is against  Ramit Tandon.

 

 

Surfing

WSL Junior Surfing World Championships (11-18 Jan) - Lukas Skinner competes in the men's event and has safely progressed through opening round to the elimination where he will surf against  Connor Slijpen.

 

 

Tennis:

WTA Hobart International (12-17 Jan) - Emma Raducanu is the top seed and will face  Camila Osorio in the first round.

 

WTA Adelaide International (12-17 Jan) - Katie Swan was attempting to qualify but fell in the first round against 12th seed  Elena Ruse 7-5 2-6 3-6.

 

ATP Adelaide International (12-17 Jan) - Jacob Fearnley is the 2nd seed in the qualifying draw. Having won his first-round match against  Christopher O'Connell 7-6 7-6, he will play  Aleksandar Vukic for a place in the main draw. 

 

ATP ASB Classic Auckland (12-17 Jan) - Cameron Norrie is the 5th seed and will face  qualifier Hugo Gaston in the first round.

 

Australian Open Qualifying (12-16 Jan) - Plenty of Brits attempting to qualify for the main draw of the year's first Grand Slam including 9 in the men's draw.

 

Mimi Xu made it into the qualifying draw after a couple of withdrawals. She will face  Darja Vidmanova in the first round. Harriet Dart is against  Destanee Aiava. Katie Boulter was due to be competing in qualifying but has been advanced to the main draw following withdrawals.

 

On the men's side, Ryan Peniston has a tough draw against 2nd seed  Roman Burruchaga. Oliver Crawford will face  Daniel Merida. Dan Evans will start his campaign against  Rei Sakamoto. George Loffhagen will face  Justin Engel. Jan Choinski is the 11th seed and will start against  Leandro Riedi. Jay Clarke is drawn against  Gustavo Heide with Arthur Fery against  Edward Winter. Billy Harris, fresh from his stint at the United Cup is the 15th seed and will start his campaign in Melbourne against  Chris Rodesch. Finally, Jack Pinnington Jones will face  Gilles Bailly. 

 

 

Table Tennis:

WTT Star Contender Doha (13-18 Jan) - Anna Hursey is scheduled to compete in the women's singles.

Badminton:

YONEX-Sunrise India Open (12-18 Jan) - 

A disappointing set of results for the Brits this week...

Women's Singles: Kirsty Gilmour lost in the first round after a 21-14 14-21 17-21 defeat against  Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt.

Men's Doubles: Ben Lane and Sean Vendy also fell at the first hurdle losing out 16-21 21-15 18-21 to  Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan.

Women's Doubles: There was better news for the women's pairing of Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance as they overcame higher ranked opponents  Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa 13-21 26-24 22-20 before being outgunned by 6th seeds  Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee 21-8 21-5 in the second round. 

Mixed Doubles: Alexander Dunn and Julie MacPherson couldn't get passed the 7th Seeds  Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet in the first round, losing out 19-21 13-21.

 

YONEX Estonian International (8-11 Jan) -

 

Men's Singles: Ethan Rose was the 6th Seed and dispatched  Jeppe Bruun 21-14 21-15 in the first round but would lose out to  Hsin Tse Tu 11-21 21-16 17-21 in the round of 16. None of the Brits who were in qualifying were able to make the main draw.

 

Women's Singles:  Ann Mok was pretty comprehensively crushed in her qualifying match losing 3-21 3-21 to  Sophie La Cour. 

 

Men's Doubles: The  pairing of Flaaten/Osthassel dispatched Benjamin Horseman and Jia Bin Lee 21-9 21-14 in the first round to set up a second round match up with top seeds Oliver Butler and Samuel Jones. The Brits came through 21-16 21-14 to progress to the quarterfinals where they would defeat  Vojtech Havlicek and Tomas Svejda 21-11 21-7. They secured their place in today's final with a 21-18 21-18 victory over  Johnathan Dresp and Simon Krax. The Brits secured their first title of the year with a 16-21 21-18 21-18 win over  Da Gu La Wai Bao Xin and Yu Hsiang Chou.

 

Robin Harper and Harry Wakefield had a bye in the first round as the 4th seeds but couldn't get past  Da Gu La Wai Bao Xin and Yu Hsiang Chou in round two, losing 15-21 15-21. 

 

Alex Green and Zach Russ faced qualifiers  Andy Buijk and Brian Wassink and progressed 21-14 21-18 and followed that up with a 21-12 17-21 21-19 win over  Jesper Borgstedt and Joel Hansson. In the quarterfinals, they lost 21-13 15-21 14-21to 3rd seed  Johnathan Dresp and Simon Krax. 

 

Mixed Doubles: Samuel Jones and Lizzie Tolman defeated  Jakob Ekman and Fiona Hallberg 21-5 15-21 21-10 in the first round and then beat  Max Svensson and Sofia Stromvall 21-16 21-18 to set up a quarterfinal against top seeds  Timothy Lock and Chloe Hoang. 

 

 

Cycling - Road:

Santos Tour Down Under (17-19 Jan) - Plenty of Brits in the start list.

Josie Nelson was the top GB finisher in stage 1 with second place.  Lauren Dickson was 16th. Claire Steels was 34th with Alice Towers in 37th and Flora Perkins was 43rd - all recording the same time. Isobel Carys Lloyd, and Becky Storrie were among the back finishers with Lloyd 71st 1:31 behind the bunch and Storrie in 74th a further 10 seconds behind.   

 

Nelson was also the top Brit in stage 2 with a third place. Steels was 37th with Dickson in 39th, both finishing 22 seconds behind the leaders. Finishing 1 minute and 11 seconds behind the leaders was good enough for 57th place overall for Alice Towers. Isobel Carys Lloyd struggled with this stage, finishing over 13 minutes behind the leaders down in 72nd out of the 74 finishers. Unfortunately, Becky Storrie was a DNF.

 

At the end of stage 2, Josie Nelson is second overall, 14 seconds behind New Zealand's Ally Woolaston. The final stage takes place tomorrow. 

 

 

Equestrian - Jumping:

Longines FEI World Cup: Leipzig (14-18 Jan) - Sameh El Dahan is the only Brit listed as competing.

4 more Fencing events in the calendar week for the Juniors.

 

FIE Epee Junior World Cup (Individual & Team) (16-18 Jan) - Cador Beautyman was the sole Brit competing in  Manama and finished in in 23rd place.

 

FIE Foil Junior World Cup (Individual & Team) (16-18 Jan) - 8 British women competed in  Tbilisi -

Megan Elliott was the top finisher for GB in 60th place. Rachael Adams secured a tie for 83rd place ahead of Isabella Johnson in 85th. Zoe Wagstaff was just outside the top 100 in 101st. Indigo Zaffino finished 124th with Abigael McVinnie in 130th. Sophie Mehra was in a tie for 180th and finally Claire Sosnov had a bit of a nightmare finishing 195th (out of 198). 

 

In the team event GB are the 7th seeds but were defeated by 10th seed  23-22 in a tight round of 16 encounter.

 

FIE Foil Junior World Cup (Individual & Team) (16-18 Jan) - 12 British fencers were competing in  Madrid. 

 

David Kelly was top GB finisher in 46th with Callum Penman in 64th, David Sosnov in 68th. with Mohammed Belbouab sneaking into the top 100 with his 98th place finish. Alexander James secured a tie for 103rd, Luca Florea was 111th, Ashley Crees was 119th with Finn Keen 123rd. Sam Barrass and Aarav Chaudhari finished down in 167th and 169th respectively. Yaqub Wagdi could only manage a 229th finish with James Havard the final GB placer down in 248th.               

 

In the team event GB are the 3rd seeds and have a bye in the round of 32. They overcame 14th seed  45-34 in the round of 16 to set up a match against USA in the quarterfinals. Despite going behind, they were able to fight back and sneak out a 44-43 win to set up semifinal against 2nd seeds . A 45-41 win set up a final against Hong Kong where they ultimately fell to a 45-37 defeat. 

 

FIE Sabre Junior World Cup (16-18 Jan) - In  Boston, Coco Guven finished in 22nd place with Keira D-Sallows in 53rd.

 

 

Golf:

PGA Sony Open (15-18 Jan) - Going into the final round, Harry Hall is the highest placed Brit in Hawaii in a tie for 2nd place on -10, 2 shots behind leader Davis Riley of USA. John Parry is in 5th place, 1 shot further behind. 

 

Robert MacIntyre is in 20th place on -5 whilst Dan Brown is in group tied for 32nd place on -4. Aaron Rai is on -2 in 50thplace and finally, Jordan Smith is +1 and is in 70th place.

 

DPT - Dubai Invitational (15-18 Jan) - Matt Wallace and Marcus Armitage finished in a tie for 7th place on -6, 4 shots behind winner Ignacio Elvira. Scotsmen Ewen Ferguson and Grant Forrest were tied for 20th place on -1, just ahead of Tommy Fleetwood who finished in 25th on even par. Paul Waring was +1 in 27th, with Connor Syme and Dan Bradbury +2 to finish in tie for 30th place. Daniel Gavins finished on +5 for 38th place, Danny Willett was +7 in 45th, and Calum Hill +9 for 47th. Andy Sullivan was the last of the Brits in 52nd on +11. 

 

Richard Mansell withdrew from the event.

 

 

Squash:

Squash in the Land 2026 (13-18 Jan) - Joel Makin was due to be the 2nd seed but withdrew prior to the competition starting.

 

Greg Lobban was promoted to 4th seed and had a bye to second round. There, he defeated  Muhammad Asim Khan 11-3 11-3 9-11 0-11 11-5 to progress to the quarterfinals. There he defeated 7th seed  Raphael Kandra 9-11 11-8 11-9 10-12 11-1 to progress to the semifinals where he would lose to 2nd seed  Leonel Cardenas 11-7 8-11 9-11 5-11. 

 

The withdrawal of Makin resulted in a redraw with Nathan Lake defeated  Matthew Lai 11-7 10-12 11-6 9-11 11-5 in the first round before dispatching 5th seed  Auguste Dussourd 11-4 12-10 11-11-6 to progress to the quarterfinals. There he was on the wrong side of a 9-11 11-7 11-7 11-9 scoreline against 3rd seed  Gregoire Marche.

 

Having previously been drawn against Nathan Lake, Perry Malik was against  Marwan Tamer in the redraw and won the match 11-3 7-11 11-4 11-9. In the second round he fell to 7th seed  Raphael Kandra 11-9 11-8 11-5

 

In the women's draw, Jasmine Hutton is the third seed and has a bye in the first round. In the second round, she dispatched  Marta Dominguez 11-2 11-7 11-4 to progress to the quarterfinals where she would beat  5th seed Malak Khafagy 11-5 11-8 9-11 7-11 12-10 to book her place in the semifinals against top seed  Olivia Weaver 11-3 11-4 11-4.

 

Georgia Adderley also had a bye as the 7th seed. She would ultimately lose her second-round match to Lucy Beecroft 11-8 8-11 10-12 11-7 12-10 after Beecroft had previously dispatched  Hayley Ward 11-5 11-2 8-11 11-6 in the first round. Beecroft would ultimately lose out to 2nd seed  Nele Gilis 6-11 11-9 11-7 6-11 11-5 in the quarterfinals.

 

Grace Gear defeated  wildcard Dixon B Hill 11-5 11-9 14-12 in the first round but was no match for 2nd seed  Gilis in the second round, losing out 11-9 11-4 11-4. Alicia Mead dispatched  Nicole Bunyan 11-4 11-6 11-9 in the first round but lost out in the second round, defeated 11-8 4-11 6-11 11-5 11-7 by  5th seed Malak Khafagy. 

 

Sarah Nghiem defeated  Madeleine Hylland 12-10 11-2 11-9 in the first round before being defeated by  8th seed Hollie Naughton 11-6 9-11 11-5 11-6 in the second round.  

 

 

DR21 Motor City Men's Open (13-18 Jan) - Sam Todd defeated countryman Simon Herbert 2-11 11-7 11-4 11-4 in the first round to set up a match against 2nd seed Marwan ElShorbagy. ElShorbagy would go on to defeat Todd 11-8 11-6 5-11 11-8 in round 2. In the quarterfinals, Elshorbagy defeated  Karim El Hammamy 11-5 11-13 11-7 11-6 to progress to the semifinals where he will take on 4th seed  Dimitri Steinmann. 

 

Adrian Waller was defeated by  Salman Khalil 11-7 6-11 7-11 11-8 8-11 in the first round whilst Tom Walsh was defeated by  Ramit Tandon 8-11 4-11 11-8 4-11. 

 

 

Surfing

WSL Junior Surfing World Championships (11-18 Jan) - Lukas Skinner made it to the last 16 of the men's event where he was eliminated by  Lennix Smith. 

 

 

Tennis:

WTA Hobart International (12-17 Jan) - Emma Raducanu was the top seed and dispatched  Camila Osorio 6-3 7-6 in a rain delayed match. she was then advanced to quarterfinals when  Magdalena Fech was forced to withdraw. In a pretty dismal match, again interrupted by rain,  wildcard Taylah Preston 6-2 6-4. 

 

WTA Adelaide International (12-17 Jan) - Katie Swan was attempting to qualify but fell in the first round against 12th seed  Elena Ruse 7-5 2-6 3-6.

 

ATP Adelaide International (12-17 Jan) - Jacob Fearnley was the 2nd seed in the qualifying draw. Having won his first-round match against  Christopher O'Connell 7-6 7-6, he would lose to  Aleksandar Vukic 4-6 7-6 3-6. In a bonus, he was promoted to the main draw as a lucky loser but couldn't take advantage of his good fortune as he would lose  qualifier Quentin Halys 6-3 6-4 in the first round.

 

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool were the top seeds in the men's doubles and as such had a bye in the first round. In a surprise result, they would lose in the second round to / pairing of Matthew Romios and Ryan Seggerman 4-6 7-6 9-11.

 

 

ATP ASB Classic Auckland (12-17 Jan) - Cameron Norrie was the 5th seed and defeated  qualifier Hugo Gaston 6-3 6-4 in the first round but couldn't follow it up in the second round despite having chances against  Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard. He would ultimately lose out 6-4 3-6 7-6. 

 

Australian Open Qualifying (12-16 Jan) - Plenty of Brits were in the qualifying tournament for the year's first Grand Slam and it was a pretty mixed bag. 

 

Mimi Xu made it into the qualifying draw after a couple of withdrawals and put in a decent performance before ultimately running out of steam. She went down to a 3-6 6-2 2-6 loss at the hands of  Darja Vidmanova in the first round. 

 

Harriet Dart fared better, defeating  Destanee Aiava 6-3 2-6 6-2 in the first round before losing out to 21st seed  Lanlana Tararudee 0-6 6-3 3-6. 

 

On the men's side, Ryan Peniston had a tough draw against 2nd seed  Roman Burruchaga and would lose out 6-1 6-1. There was also first round defeats for Oliver Crawford who wasn't able to take advantage of the chances he had in his 3-6 6-2 3-6 defeat at the hands of  Daniel Merida. It was a disappointing result for Dan Evans after a decent start to the year. He would ultimately lose out to  Rei Sakamoto 6-1 6-2. Jay Clarke was another first round loss, falling to  Gustavo Heide 6-3 6-3. Jack Pinnington Jones lost to  Gilles Bailly 6-4 6-4.  

 

George Loffhagen made it through his first-round match with a 7-6 7-6 win over  Justin Engel. In the second round, he was leading 6-3 3-1 when  Yoshihito Nishioka was forced to retire. In the final round of qualifying, Loffhagen had chances but couldn't capitalise, ultimately losing out to  Nishesh Basavareddy 7-5 4-6 4-6.

 

Saving the best for last, Arthur Fery qualified for the main draw after recording wins against  Edward Winter 6-2 6-4 in the first round,  Bernard Tomic 6-4 6-2 in round two and  Dino Prizmic 6-4 6-1.

WTT Star Contender Doha (13-18 Jan) - Anna Hursey lost her first-round match 3-1 to  qualifier Tsai Yun-En - 6-11 11-7 9-11 4-11.

DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters (20-25 Jan) - Ben Lane and Sean Vendy are the only Brits in action this week. They are the 7th seeds and are drawn against  Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal in the first round. 

 

YONEX Estonian International (22-25 Jan) -

Men's Singles: Heng Lin Ngan is the only direct entry in the main draw. He is drawn to face a qualifier in the first round. With a handful of Brits competing in the qualifying draw, we could see more make it to the main draw.

Women's Singles:   There are no women's with direct entry to the main draw, but Ann Mok is the 2nd seed in the qualifying draw. Pamela Reyes is also trying to qualify.

Women's Doubles: Saffron Morris and Yulia Tang are drawn against  Zoe Martin-Mouchain and Mathilde Pinna in the first round.

Mixed Doubles: Robin Harper will team up with Yulia Tang and are the 5th seeds. They will face  Arush Ravikumar and Marjolene Raffin in the first round. 

Oswald Fung and Michelle Ting have been drawn against 4th seeds  Timo Stoffelen and Inger Pothuizen.

Men's Singles - Cameron Norrie is the 26th seed. He has advanced to the second round with a hard fought 6-0 6-7 4-6 6-3 6-4 win over  Benjamin Bonzi.

Arthur Fery came through qualifying and was drawn against 20th seed  Flavio Cobolli. The Italian was struggling throughout the match and Fery was able to take advantage to close out a 7-6 6-4 6-1 victory to progress to the second round where he will face  Tomas Etcheverry. 

Jacob Fearnley has drawn Kamil Majchrzak in the first round. 

 

Women's Singles - Emma Raducanu is the 28th seed and has been given a bit of a crappy draw. After a slow start, she overcame  Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4 6-1 to set up a second round match up with  Anastasia Potapova. If she can dispatch the Austrian, she will likely face top seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Fran Jones probably has the kindest draw for the Brits as she'll face  qualifier Linda Klimovicova. Both Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal have been drawn against seeded opposition - 10th seed  Belinda Bencic and 31st seed Anna Kalinskaya respectively.

Doubles: Although there are a few Brits competing across the doubles events, to manage the workload I'll only track all British pairings. Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool are the top seeds and have been drawn against / pairing of Ariel Behar and Joran Vliegen.

Badminton:

DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters (20-25 Jan) - Ben Lane and Sean Vendy were the only Brits in action this week. The 7th seeds safely navigated their first round match with a 17-21 21-17 21-3 victory over  Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal but they exited in the second round after a 16-21 15-21 loss at the hands of  Song Hyun Cho and Lee Jongmin. 

 

YONEX Estonian International (22-25 Jan) -

Men's Singles: Heng Lin Ngan was the only direct entry in the main draw with none of the other Brits making it out of the qualifying draw. He dispatched  Iljo Van Delsen 21-11 21-7 in the first round to set up a 2nd round match against 2nd seed  Tobias Kuenzi. He progressed to the quarterfinals with a hard fought 21-14 26-24 victory. In the quarters, he faced 6th seed  Mikkel Langemark and would lose 11-21 15-21.  

Women's Singles:   Ann Mok was unable to qualify for the main draw, but Pamela Reyes did. Her reward was a first round match up against 4th seed  Laura Floj Thomsen. She ultimately lost 9-21 8-21.

Women's Doubles: Saffron Morris and Yulia Tang came through 22-20 21-17 against  Zoe Martin-Mouchain and Mathilde Pinna in the first round. They would reach the quarterfinals with a 21-15 21-10 win over  Katla Sol Arnarsdottir and Hrafnhildur Edda Ingvarsdottir. They would book a semifinal place with a hard fought 21-23 21-9 21-6 victory over  Lily Gautier and Manon Heitzmann. The run came to an end in the semifinals with a 11-21 21-10 17-21 defeat at the hands of  Sarah Frederikke Vishart and Anna Louise Winther.

Mixed Doubles: Robin Harper will team up with Yulia Tang were the 5th seeds and defeated  Arush Ravikumar and Marjolene Raffin 11-9 11-6 in the first round. They reached the quarterfinals with a 21-6 21-12 win over Asbjorn Olsen and Sanna Thorkildshoj.  Their competition ended in the quarterfinal after a 21-12 17-21 15-21 defeat by top seeds  Nicolas Franconville and Julie Franconville 

Oswald Fung and Michelle Ting put up a decent fight but could get passed 4th seeds  Timo Stoffelen and Inger Pothuizen, losing out 15-21 14-21.

 

 

Cycling - Road:

Santos Tour Down Under (17-19 Jan) - We'll have the final stage of the women's race - Josie Nelson is currently sitting in 2nd place overall. In the final stage, Lauren Dickson was the top finisher in 11th ahead of Josie Nelson in 14th. Claire Steels was a further 1:18 behind in 23rd place with Alice Towers in 28th.

 

In the final classification Josie Nelson was 12th, Lauren Dickson 17th, Claire Steels 22nd, Alice Towers 33rd with Flora Perkins 53rd. 

 

Santos Tour Down Under (20-25 Jan): The Brits put in a pretty strong performance across the event. In the prologue Samuel Watson and Ethan Vernon took a 1-2 finish. In Stage 1 Matthew Brennan was 2nd with Ethan Vernon taking 5th in a bunch finish. In Stage 2 Adam Yates was the top finisher in 7th around a minute behind the stage winner. In the penultimate stage, Thomas Stewart was 4th. In the 4th and final stage, Ethan Vernon took the stage win with Samuel Watson in 7th. It was another British win in the final stage with Matthew Brennan taking the top step on the podium. Samuel Watson also finished in the points with a 7th place. 

 

Overall, Adam Yates was the top finisher for  in 23rd place, ahead of Samuel Watson in 38th, James Knox in 43rd with Oliver Peace in 48th to all finish in the ranking points. Despite winning the last stage, Matthew Brennan finished the tour in 68th place. Ethan Vernon was 90th and Ben Swift was 95th. Callum Thornley sneaks into the top-100 in 98th and finally, Oliver Stockwell was 112th out of 114 finishers. 

    

 

Equestrian - Dressage:

FEI Dressage World Cup: Amsterdam (22-25 Jan) - Charlotte Fry on Glamourdale won the Grand Prix with a score of 80.000. Becky Moody, on Jagerbomb was 3rd in 77.239. Charlotte Dujardin was 5th on Alive and Kicking with 73.044. 

 

In the Grand Prix Freestyle to Music, Charlotte Fry again took the top spot with a score of 89.305. Becky Moody was 3rd in 85.310. Charlotte Dujardin was 6th on 79.955.

Susan Sica finished in a tie for 145th with Darcy Herring Johnson in a tie for 159th. Katherine Townsend was in 168th and Megan Upton in 170th.

In the men's event, Tristan Lumineau was the highest placed Brit in 146th. Benjamin Andrews was 163rd with Cador Beautyman in 168th. Fin Bennet was down in 211th, Aurelien Degorce in 219th and finally, Tobias Berry lost all of his bouts to finish 242nd out of 250 competitors.

 

 

Golf:

PGA - The American Express (22-25 Jan) - Going into the final round, Matt Fitzpatrick is top placed Brit in 20th place on -15 - 7 shots behind current leader  Si-Woo Kim. Jordan Smith and Robert MacIntyre are both a further shot back in a tie for 24th. John Parry is down in 50th with Harry Hall in 61st.  

 

DPT - Hero Dubai Desert Classic (22-25 Jan) - Andy Sullivan (-10) was runner-up, 4 shots behind  Patrick Reed. Marcus Armitage also managed a top-10 finish with -7 for 8th place. -4 for Alex Fitzpatrick was good enough for a tie of 19th. Ewen Ferguson and Tyrrell Hatton finished on -2 for a tie of 33rd. Daniel Bradbury, Grant Forrest, Tommy Fleetwood and Laurie Canter all finished in a tie for 41st on -1. Richie Ramsay (49th), Eddie Pepperell (49th), Sam Bairstow (61st) and Ross Fisher (64th) also competed.   

 

 

Judo:

Casablanca African Open (25-Jan) - 38 British Judokas are down to compete in Casablanca:

 

Men's -60Kg: Evan Price, David Gheorghiu and Ross Dempsey all lost in their first fight. Nordine Adrif lost out in the last-16. Laurence Hill progressed to the Repechage after a last 16 with a win over  Hayden Brosiius. In the quarterfinal, he lost out to  Leonardo Barros. He ultimately finishes in 7th place after losing out to  David Starkel.

 

Men's -66Kg: Neil MacDonald won his pool after victories over  Raycin Zeid,  Younes Saddiki and  Kantemir Zambatov. He'd ultimately have to settle for a bronze after losing his semifinal to  Jacob Yang. 

Aiden Moffat progressed to the Repechage after losing his quarterfinal to  Saigid Kerimov. He would finish in 7th place after defeat at the hands of  Soulaimane El Mekkaoui. Both Joshua Bell and Gregg Varey lost in the last-16.

 

Men's -73Kg: Ben Moore, lost out in the last-16 after defeat at the hands of  Felix Mercier-Ross. Cameron Charles won his pool to progress to the semi-finals. He lost his semi to  Hassan Doukkali but rebounded to take bronze after defeating Mercier-Ross.

 

Men's -81Kg: Benjamin Fox Kennedy, Andrew Ross, Harrison Evans, Daniel Pacitti and Peter Davies all lost in their first fights. Kylan Aylward won his first-round match but would exit the competition in the round of 16. Luke Davies progressed to the Repechage after losing his quarterfinal to  Antonio Candeiro. He finished 7th place overall after being defeated by  Claudio Nunes Dos Santos.    

 

Men's -90Kg: Ioan Carter-Jones, Cameron Reid-Thomas, Kenneth Harris and Asher Price all lost out in their first-round matches. Corey O'Neal-Narcis overcame  Timotej Kos to progress to the last 16 where he was defeated by  Abderahmane Diao.

 

Men's +100Kg - Andrew McWatt and Daniel Ede both lost in the last 16. Joshua Whitehouse progressed to the Repechage after losing his quarterfinal to  Andzhei Pavliukov. He finished 5th overall after losing out to  Rino Vrljic.

 

Women's -48Kg: Ashleigh Barnikel lost her first fight against  Narjess Haddeji. 

 

Women's -57Kg: Tomi Imrie progressed with victory over  Darja Mihhailova but would lose in the last 16 after defeat by  Wissal Ziane. Madeleine Birri exited in the first round, after being defeated by  Valentina Shtentsova.

 

Women's -63Kg: Sophie Wood took gold after winning her pool and dispatching  Nadia Guimendego in the semi and  Jeanne Louise Nkou Mballa in the final. Both Sunny Doig and Millie Bayliss won their first-round match but lost in the last 16.

 

Women's -70Kg: Hazel Taylor and Paige Keane both lost out in their first fight. Rachael Hawkes went into the repechage after losing her quarterfinal against  Kamila Badurova. Defeat at the hands of  Eva Ognivova meant she finished in 7th. Holly Devall won silver having won her pool with victories over  Yasmine Hariss and  Kseniia Medvedeva. In the semis she defeated  Diassonema Mucungui before losing out to Kamila Badurova. 

 

GB will leave Morocco with 4 medals - a gold, silver and two bronze. 

 

Squash:

Sprott Tournament of Champions (22-29 Jan) - Plenty of Brits competing New York. This event will continue into next week so this update will only cover the first couple of rounds.  

 

Joel Makin was due to be the 4th seed but withdrew before the event began.

Marwan ElShorbagy was the 6th seed but lost in the first round, defeated 11-9 1-11 11-13 11-13 by  Timothy Brownell. 

Mohamed ElShorbagy was promoted to 8th seeds and in the redraw and, in his 11-9 11-7 11-8 victory over  Juan Vargos became the most successful player on the PSA Squash Tour. 

Declan James was originally due to face Mohamed ElShorbagy but was redrawn against  Bernat Jaume. He ultimately lost 14-12 7-11 15-17 4-11.

Jonah Bryant dispatched  Hart Robertson 11-5 11-3 11-3 in the first round.

Gregg Lobban defeated  Kareem El Torkey 7-11 11-9 11-5 11-7 to set up last 16 match against 3rd seed  Diego Elias.

Curtis Malik had a tough opener against  Eain Yow Ng and unfortunately lost out 7-11 3-11 2-11.

 

In the women's draw, Jasmine Hutton defeated  Hana Moataz 11-8 11-13 11-8 11-7 in the first round to set up last 16 match against  7th seed Tinne Gilis.

Georgia Adderley exited in the first round after an 8-11 4-11 4-11 defeat at the hands of 5th seed  Sivasangari Subramaniam. 

Lucy Turmel also lost out in the first round, defeated 3-11 6-11 11-9 11-13 by  Anahat Singh

 

 

Table Tennis:

WTT Star Contender Muscat (19-24 Jan) - Anna Hursey defeated  8th seed Linda Bergstrom 4-11 11-7 10-12 11-7 11-7 in the first round before taking out  Wang Xiaotong 11-8 15-13 8-11 3-11 11-7 in the round of 16 to set up a quarterfinal against  2nd seed He Zhuojia. There she was defeated 4-11 5-11 11-7 11-9 2-11.

Tin-Tin Ho was drawn against  3rd seed Qin Yuxuan in the first round and was defeated 8-11 11-8 3-11 8-11.

 

 

Tennis:

Australian Open (18-01 Feb) -

Unfortunately, we're able to wrap up the  results a week early. 

 

Men's Singles - Cameron Norrie was the 26th seed and had a fairly decent week. After a hard fought 6-0 6-7 4-6 6-3 6-4 win over  Benjamin Bonzi in round 1, he then defeated  Emilio Nava 6-1 7-6 4-6 7-6 in round 2. His tournament came to an end in round 3 when he lost 5-7 6-4 3-6 1-6 to 3rd seed  Alexander Zverev.

Arthur Fery was arguably GB's top performer this week, having come through qualifying and dispatching an admittedly sub-par 20th seed  Flavio Cobolli 7-6 6-4 6-1 he unfortunately ran out of steam against  Tomas Etcheverry losing out 6-7 1-6 3-6.

Jacob Fearnley continues to struggle for form losing out to  Kamil Majchrzak 7-6 7-5 3-6 7-6 in the first round. 

 

Women's Singles - Emma Raducanu continues to struggle - not sure the last time she won consecutive matches. Having overcome  Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4 6-1 in the first round, she put in a pretty woeful performance in a 7-6 6-2 defeat at the hands of  Anastasia Potapova.

Fran Jones probably had the kindest draw of the Brits, but there were question marks over her fitness after she had withdrawn from previous match. Unfortunately she retired after trailing 2-6 2-3 to  qualifier Linda Klimovicova.

Katie Boulter continues to struggle. After scraping into the main draw, she had a pretty terrible draw, facing 10th seed  Belinda Bencic in the first round. Sure enough, she would lose 6-0 7-5. 

Sonay Kartal also had seeded opposition - 31st seed Anna Kalinskaya. Kartal was easily beaten 7-6 6-1

 

Doubles: (NB: I'm only tracking all British pairings)

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool were the top seeds. Having dispatched / pairing of Ariel Behar and Joran Vliegen 7-6 6-4 in the first round, they were on the wrong end of the surprise of the tournament as they lost 7-6 6-4 to  wildcard pairing of James McCabe and Li Tu in the second round.

AGB Diving International (30 Jan - 1 Feb) - Unfortunately GB Aquatics are only interested in flogging tickets for the event rather than actually publicising who is taking part. Diverecorder has released the startlists:

Men's 3m Springboard - Ross Haslam, Matthew Dixon, Oliver Heath, Jordan Houlden, Anthony Harding, Oscar Willcox, Leon Baker, Todd Geggus and Hugo Thomas are competing. 

Women's 3m Springboard - Scarlett Mew-Jensen, Tilly Brown, Yasmin Harper, Amy Rollinson, Evie Smith, Desharne Bent Ashmeil and Amelie Underwood are competing.

Men's 10m Platform - Euan McCabe, Ben Cutmore, Robbie Lee, Kyle Kothari and Robbie Wood

Women's 10m Platform - Tia Mai McGarry, Eden Cheng, Hannah Newbrook and Masie Bond

 

In the synchro events, Connor Lano and Todd Geggus will team up in the men's 3m synchro alongside Ross Haslam and Leon Baker. In the women's 3m synchro Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen, Desharne Bent Ashmeil and Amy Rollinson and Tilly Brown with Evie Smith will all be competing. 

 

On the 10m platform, Kyle Kothari will pair up with Robbie Lee, Ben Cutmore with Euan McCabe and Robbie Wood pairs up with Jorden Fisher Eames. Louis Toulson and Maisie Bond are the only pairing listed in the women's event.

Women's European Water Polo Championships (26 Jan - 5 Feb) -  are in Pool D. They started their competition last night with a 14-4 defeat at the hands of . They'll then take on  tomorrow before finishing their pool against  on Thursday.

Mohamed ElShorbagy and Jonah Bryant were the best of the Brits this week with both making it through to the quarterfinals.

 

Mohamed ElShorbagy became the most successful player on the PSA Squash Tour this week after his victory over  Juan Vargos in the first round. He followed that up with a 4-11 13-15 11-9 11-6 11-7 win over  Eain Yow Ng in the round of 16. 3rd seed  Diego Elias was too strong in the quarterfinals dispatching the Brit 6-11 11-5 11-8 11-5.
