Not a chance.  Not even a criterium.  Theo Vos was the only guy who could do it, probably ever.  The French had a sprint World Champ, Gregory Bauge, who could not even ride 200m.

The fact that there isn't even a velodrome in Italy doesn't help.

Yeah you can start the kids on the old concrete tracks, but for World class athletes you need a World Class track for sure.

also having a very good Champs.  Used to be that the keirin was their only event & even then they struggled with the different rules.
