This plus the relative organizational mess that is French Alps 2030 makes me wonder in who’s cornflakes Sweden pissed to be passed up twice (losing to Milan I thought at the time and still do think was reasonable, but losing out to a French bid that wasn’t even half baked was such a joke).

They probably didn't want to build a bobsleigh track at home, but rather hold the competition in Sigulda (Latvia), which was simply too far away, plus alpine skiing in Are, far to the north. And their community probably wouldn't agree to building a bobsleigh track specifically for an event in which they have no tradition. Paris 2024 did it good, so France in winter 2030 can do it too. The problem might be that if Macron leaves and a Le Pen or something similar comes in, things might get worse, but hopefully not.

Yes and now France doesn’t want to build a speed skating oval (even a temporary one).

Like to be clear, I have no problem with France winning a winter Olympic bid. I think Nice is a great city to anchor a Winter Olympic. My issue is that the bid that won 2030 was basically “ya we want to host the Winter Olympics and we’ll figure out stuff later”. To a degree every Olympic game is a work in progress but that one took it to the extreme.

you're a pessimist beyond any reasonable limit

the olympics are gonna be great, everything is already in place and it's not a single with some problems that would define the whole Games

I think that, I`m more of a realist than a pessimist and I remember what happened in Turin and some years after.

Exactly, and if the government changes to some populists, it might be bad... That's what I'm afraid of... However, Paris 2024 managed it good.

it looks it wasn't that bad, though

it was quickly fixed and the game regularly came to an end

the real test, however, is tomorrow and sunday with 3 matches one after another (11 am, 3.30 and 8 pm)

Maybe it should have been done in Bolzano? What kind of ice rink is there, but the Division IA World Championships were held there in 2024. But of course, it's too late now...

the point are the Olympic Games themselves, the highest, most important moment the entire world of sports has

that's more than enough to host, even if you completely waste any chance to improve the situation of the sports in the Country, which is only a plus, not the reason

Greece did the same in 2004... After that they fell lower in sport than they were before, but from what I remember that`s games was for they the best Olympics in the 21st century in terms of won medals.

You act like Italy is terrible in most sports with your criticisms about the team, you need to have some faith.

If hosting a home Olympics will make it difficult to improve on the 2022 medal count, then there must be something wrong, true? If Canada had done something similar in 2010, would they have been praised for it?

don't even joke about that!

the Bolzano arena is good for their team and for B/C division worlds, not for serious games
