:GER guy just collapsed in the Race Walk - it is hot out there.

And apparently 2 DQFs for shoe rule violations in the Triple Jump.

:ESP guy crosses the line in the Walk, celebrates the gold.....but has to get up & do another lap.  :TUR take the gold.

Following Miklyčiūtė is always a funny experience

Another shared silver medal for her, she can come back in two years time, since she is born in 2005.

With some nice Lithuanian athletes born in 2006/2007 as well, should be a pretty solid team if everyone is healthy, and we might continue our medal streak in the U23 scene :)

She should have just kept going until the World Championship qualifying mark

Wondering if she's doing FISU also, Czechs usually send a good team.

:ESP Delgado takes the Triple Jump Gold - does not seem to be from :CUB

Wow, :DEN Schärfe just set an absolute NU23 record in heptathlon jav!  That is so rare!

And as soon as I post this, I find out that Kate O'Connor :IRL also did it as recently as 2019.

Very disappointing championships for us so far! Just one bronze medal from Emmanouilidou.

And now we just lost Mantzouranis in the men's hammer throw with 3 fouls in the final! He has 78.61 this year (9 meets this year over 75m), was first in qualifying and the massive favourite for gold. He did the same thing in 2023 at the European U20s where he was first in qualifying and had NM in the final. Very, very disapppointing!

We still have two other Greeks in the final plus a Cypriot, all are currently in the top 4 (and were originally top 4 favourites) so a good chance to hear our national anthem played and possibly even a podium sweep but now much less likely with Mantzouranis out...

We had so many athletes who were top 3 this year and came nowhere close to the podium. Retsa, Mita, Franks, Stamatonikolos, now Mantzouranis! Hopefully Korakidis will not join that list, he's currently 3rd after 4 rounds. And of course some others like Pavlidis who at least came close (I think he was 5th) but still a big disappointment that they didn't win medals.

We also had two returning medalists from 2023 that didn't defend their medals - Emmanouilidou in the women's 200m (though she did win a medal in the 100m this time), and Despollari in the women's 800m (she finished 4th with a U23NR so still a solid showing).

We also had U23NRs in the women's 400m hurdles, women's 4x400m (three of the same girls from 2023 where the previous U23NR was set, they smashed it by 6 seconds), men's 10km walk...should've had one in the women's 3000 steeplechase but Kallimogianni fell in the last hurdle/pool in the final and still was very close to the U23NR despite that. And it looks like we will probably get a U23NR in the heptathlon but probably with 4th place instead of a medal but let's see what happens in the 800m!

They finished 1-2-3!

:CYP Kesidis, :GRE Papanastasiou, :GRE Korakidis

We still get to hear our national anthem :d

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
