I just noticed there was European Judo Championships Open in 2023 with only men's 73 and women's 57 events. What was the point of that event? What was the difference with normal European Championships?

it was below and over 57/73kg (4 categories, 2 for men and 2 for women), if I remember correctly 

 

however, basically they gave a title shot to a meaningless competition, in order to try and relive the open category, but it was a fiasco

@hckošice, even though Tomankova lost, she had a good fight against Costa, I think soon she and Babulfath will be the stars of -48kg.

We´ll see. anyway, I hope hope so.

 

It was her first career senior bout, maybe a bit too early, to be thrown in the lion´s den, but if all this will result in a medal in LA 28 I am all in

truly, truly unsportsmanlike, disgusting behaviour by  Danil Lavrentev during and after the gold medal match of the men's -73kg

 

he should have been DQed already during the fight and instead he was allowed to play the dirtiest game and win an undeserved gold medal first, and then he also taunted his opponent after the end of the match (which should have resulted once again in a DQ)

 

but he just got a simple verbal warning for all of that

 

given that also the previous times he faced  Manuel Lombardo in a couple of last year Gran Slam's GMMs he didn't act fair at all (in one of the fights he intentionally tried to break Lombardo's arm, luckily without success), IJF and EJU shouldn't be so soft on him...as he's not only an instigator, but also dangerous to his opponents

 

  him before it's too late and he ruins someone's career

Did somebody even wondering that russians violate rules in judo multiple times, considering how Dolgova try to break Bilodid's arm during Europeans 2021 after 'mate'?
