Too bad I'm awful at recognizing people, but at least I recognized Klæbo and Niskanen on the track and thanks to the fact that the top athletes have bibs with their names, I've also recognized Golberg, Jenssen and Schumacher :d

Track is SO icy, it is unbelievable. Even walking on it was a major challenge yesterday. Gonna be super difficult to keep straight and everything Wednesday and Thursday.

Out of curiosity, if your wife wanted to start for the Netherlands, what would her chances of participating in the games look like + possible financing from Ned skiing federation? This is a hypothetical question, of course.

Zero :p

Dutch NOC would for sure ask for top-8 in a World Cup and that's just not realistic..

I can understand having stricter standards where the universal quotas are very easy to achieve relatively speaking, but the Dutch NOC really takes it to a whole other level. The Olympics would be pretty terrible if every country had those policies.

:NZL is the same. Top 10 or watch on TV.  I've seen guys crying because they finished 11th in the keirin B Final.

Don't give Bach any ideas, only top 10 athletes in every events!

Just imagine how great the Marathon, the road race and mass start cross countr races will be.

Yes, but they are effective. They invest everything in speed skating and short track + in some individual units with good results, e.g. Dekker in women's snowboard or in a girl in women's skeleton. Italy, on the other hand, invests in everything, e.g. men`s ski jumping, nordic combined, etc., but doesn`t have any dominant discipline and mostly get beat up: from Switzerland in alpine skiing, from Norway and France in biathlon and from Germany and Austria in luge etc.

Not to get too far off topic, but let's not pretend the Netherlands has more medal chances than Italy in Cortina :p

    • Oh well.  Plenty people say that once you get past the first flush of youthful energy it is actually better long term to have a couple of post Olympic slow years and then start building back gradually after 18 months.  That is how Chris Hoy ran his career.
