:ITA Spring Nationals, Day #4

men's 100m Fly: Alberto Razzetti, 51.92

women's 100m Back: Federica Toma, 1.00.59...women's mid and long Backstroke distances are definitely the weakest disciplines in the entire Italian swimming

men's 200m Back: Daniele Del Signore, 1.56.89; Matteo Venini, 1.57.00; Thomas Ceccon, 1.57.19 (:mumble::facepalm::hairpull:)

women's 200m Fly: Paola Borrelli, 2.07.47

men's 200m Breast: Christian Mantegazza, 2.10.03

women's 50m Free: Sara Curtis, 24.31 (24.29, new NR, in the heats); Silvia Di Pietro, 24.73; Agata Maria Ambler, 24.85 (all below the European Champs QT)

men's 200m Free: Carlos D'Ambrosio, 1.45.77 (only man below the European Champ QT); Jacopo Barbotti, 1.47.27; Alessandro Ragaini, 1.47.61

women's 4*200m Free Relay: best splits: Simona Quadarella, 1.58.29 and Bianca Nannucci, 1.58.49 (1st leg); Anna Chiara Mascolo, 1.57.91 and Emma Virginia Menicucci, 1.58.78 (internal legs)

Ceccon clearly pushed hard up to 140m (MONSTROUS strokes at the 50m and 100m marks), then eased off. He also confirmed to RAI that he had only practised that section

Ceccon should talk less and do more. The fact is, he's currently the 3rd Italian in the 200m backstroke, and I don't care what he's trained or not.

eased off...he literally died in the last 50m

and you know...he's always bullying Caporale and all the other journalists, he would never admit that he's not training hard right now and probably he doesn't give a damn at this season

I lost faith in Ceccon at 200 meters - either he starts too hard or too slow, etc. It's a lost case.

:USA Van Mathias posted a 58.18 100m breaststroke time at the Bergen Swim Festival. Now the #5 performer all time.

:ITA Spring Nationals, Day #5

women's 50m Breast: Benedetta Pilato, 30.13; Anita Bottazzo, 30.20 (European Champs QT)

men's 50m Breast: Simone Cerasuolo, 26.51; Martinenghi and Viberti out for injury; everybody else over the 27-sec mark

women's 400m Free: Simona Quadarella, 4.03.59

men's 400m IM: Jacopo Barbotti, 4.16.01

women's 200m Back: Alessia Bianchi, 2.11.27

men's 1500m Free: Gregorio Paltrinieri, 14.58.03; Marcello Guidi, 14.58.30; Ivan Giovannoni, 14.59.21...event in disgrace, the open water specialists are now dominating it over the supposed pool specialists (Paltrinieri was at his first pool meet in the last year or even more, he basically abandoned the 800m & 1500m after Paris 2024, using the pool races only as a training for the open water competitions...and still wins it all )

women's 50m Fly: Sara Curtis, 25.89; Silvia Di Pietro, 26.09

men's 4*100m Free Relay: best splits: Carlos D'Ambrosio, 48.05 and Manuel Frigo, 48.49 (1st leg); Thomas Ceccon, 47.76 and Leonardo Deplano, 47.78 (internal legs)

so, the 2026 Spring Nationals are over...

not the championship I expected: many disappointing clockings, a few injured/sick swimmers that could have improved the level of the tournament, very few youngsters really breaking through to the international level

the only positive notes: Sara Curtis (4 titles, 2 NRs -even close to the top of the world ranking- but still too many troubles to manage the 100m free); Emma Virginia Menicucci (improving herself despite losing a lot of training sessions because of a car accident and giving the women's free relays a new perspective); the new name in the 200m free and in the IM races, Jacopo Barbotti; Simone Cerasuolo (definitely our new no.1 breaststroke specialist, now capable to swim also a very good 100m and not only the 50m)

I'm sure the team will be more than ready once the European Champs start, but right now they're really making it difficult to be optimist about the Summer :bones:
