GB's women's water polo team are hoping to end the year on a high in the World Cup Division 2 event in Turkey.

Having eased passed :BUL yesterday 29-4, they have just beaten hosts :TUR 14-8 to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

On the men's side, they'll be taking to the pool later in the week. They've be drawn in Group B against :POR and :CHN

Have been wondering whether the :GBR women will qualify for the World Championships in Singapore.

Water Polo Qualification

Currently Qualified:

Host :SGP

Olympic Games: :ESP

Olympic Games: :AUS

Olympic Games: :NED

3 x Quotas - World Aquatics World Cup Final 2025

3 x Quotas - European Championships 2024

2 x Quotas - Asian Championships

2 x Quotas - American Championships

1 x Quota - African Championships

1 x Quota - Oceania Championships

:GBR finished 7th in the 2024 European Championships behind :NED :ESP :GRE :ITA :HUN and :FRA. With Spain and Netherlands already qualified, GB would be 5th in the continental qualifying standings.

The next qualifying opportunity comes in April at the World Cup Final where there are 5 European nations in the quarterfinal line up:

:ESP v :CHN

:AUS v :HUN

:NED v :JPN

:GRE v :ITA

With 3 of the 8 nations already qualified, a top-6 finish could be enough to secure qualification. With Greece taking on Italy, we're guaranteed at least 1 non-qualified European nation in the Semis so barring disasters, it looks pretty good for :GBR to get a spot in Singapore.

:GRE :HUN and :ITA all took the quotas so :GBR have qualified.

The :GBR men have fallen just short in their attempt to qualify for the 2026 European Championships.

In their qualifying competition in :SLO last month, GB were up against :NED , :SLO . :POL  and :CZE needing a top 2 finish to progress to the final tournament.

In their first match, they were overwhelmed by :NED - conceding 10 goals in the first half without response - ultimately going down to a 27-3 defeat.

Things came together for them in their second match against :CZE as they eased to a 13-5 victory. This was followed by a tight fight against :POL with GB edging out an 11-9 victory.

The victory over Poland set up a winner takes all match against :SLO - but unfortunately it was to take place on the same day as the match against Poland. So, whilst the Slovenian team were well rested having not played since the day before, the GB guys were fatigued and ultimately went down to a 16-6 defeat which meant that Slovenia took the all-important second place in the pool.

:GBR Women's Under 18 squad have made strong start to the European Championships. They are undefeated after 3 matches to sit top of their group with 2 matches to go.

Having already banked victories over :BUL (36-4), :SVK (17-6) and :ROU (17-7) they will face undefeated :CZE tomorrow and then :SUI on Wednesday but it looks good for them to get to the crossover round.

:GBR make it 4 from 4 with a 20-9 win over :CZE

GB are now pretty much guaranteed to finish top of the group. In the crossover match they are likely to face either Croatia or Israel.

:GBR emerge from the group stage undefeated with a 23-4 victory over :SUI

It looks like they will take on :ISR in the crossover match and if they are able to come through that, would face :ITA in the quarterfinals

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
