Which Athletes will you be rooting for at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics

Recommended Posts

Decided to start a thread on this early, and get some discussion :d

When I mean athletes, I mean athletes from other countries mainly… but ones that represent your country work too :d

I’ll start first;

Obviously, :BRA @brunamoura in cross country skiing if she qualifies :d (no pressure)

and :NOR Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo.

Curling: :SWE Team Hasselborg and Team Edin, :EST Kaldvee/Lill, and to a lesser extent :JPN Team Fujisawa and :SUI Team Schwaller

Ice Hockey: :SWE Elias Pettersson/Elias Lindholm, :SUI Pius Suter, :LAT Arturs Silovs/Teddy Blueger, whichever Canucks are on :USA United States’ men’s team, :CZE Filip Hronek and :FIN Finland’s men’s team if Lankinen can keep up his good play :mumble:(Even though he’s probably going to get traded from the Canucks after this season, he prefers being on a team where he can get more starts than more money. Still I have a soft spot for him)

Alpine Skiing: :SUI Marco Odermatt, :NOR Aleksandr Aamodt Kilde, :GRE AJ Ginnis, :AND Joan Verdu and to a slightly lesser extent :AUT Johannes Strolz

Freestyle Skiing: :AUS Jakara Anthony, :NOR Birk Ruud, :SUI Sina Sigenthaler, :SUI Ryan Regez, :EST Kelly Sildaru (for more reasons than one), :CHN Eileen Gu

Snowboarding: :GER Leon Ulbricht, :NOR Marcus Kleveland, :AUT Anna Gasser, :AUT Benjamin Karl/Andreas Prommegger, :NZL Zoi Sadowski-Synnott

Ski Mountaineering: :ESP Oriol Cardona Coll and that’s it for now…

Bobsleigh: :USA Kaysha Love

Short Track: :LAT Robert Kruzbergs

Speed Skating: :NED Jutta Leerdam, :USA Jordan Stolz, :EST Marten Liiv, :BEL Bart Swings

Luge: :AUT Thomas Steu/Wolfgang Kindl, :GER Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt

From a Canadian perspective, I’m rooting for our men’s hockey team above all. Then, our curling teams, especially Team Homan if she wins Olympic Trials. Then Max Parrot, Mikael Kingsbury, Eliot Grondin, William Dandjinou, our women’s hockey team, and our ski cross squad. But really I’ll be rooting for all of our athletes.

I like Hammerle, but I’ll be rooting against him at the Olympics :d

Too many to write them down just like that. But i will try to make a list in a few days time. A really good idea for a new thread, Josh.

Usually - if no Polish athletes involved - I root for French athletes. But not always. More details soon.

For :AUS  Scotty James

Has been around for many years now and is much loved here in Australia and obviously has incredible talent.
World champs wins, X games wins, an Olympic silver and bronze but he is just missing that elusive Olympic gold.

I am looking forward to seeing how he goes again as I can’t think of another athlete in my country who is more deserving right now. 🙂

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
