Just a bump to remind everyone we are back in action this weekend, in Sigulda, always both an exciting and a frustrating weekend for the dogs of :LAT.

Just notice that this is the first Ukrainian podium ever in WC

In relay yes, but we have 8 more from our legend Natalya Yakushenko back in 2008 and earlier

Still no progress in the Italian team: 2x 4th place in men's singles and women's doubles+ a fall in the team relay. Men's doubles and women's singles without any progress for years. What's worse, our women's doubles also significantly lowered their level: without a single podium in the World Cup in this season. As of today, I'm betting on 0 medals in Cortina for us, excluding some miracles on the home track.

Hell no, our home track is Sigulda, and our only track is wooden and located in the small city of Kremenets. And despite that we had 2x 4th place from our skeletonist Vladyslav Heraskevych and bronze in luge team relay

Update: Latvia crashed, 3rd place for Ukraine. Crazy race

Anyone remember that :SUI athlete in a European Champs who was given a false start, then protested and got a re-run?  And then false-started twice. :roflmao:  Was kind of like that.

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
