Probably very much true. The other bit of true is probably that he might struggle to get a place in the Austrian national team because of the firm competition he would face whereas it is probably.... different in the Dutch team ;) And so he might get stuck in the internal selection in Austria while at the same time he could just concentrate on the World Cup for the Netherlands. Smart move.

Sure, he knows in Austria it'd be difficult, but already during his active career he had mentioned more than once that he might very well one day represent his mother's country once his career in the top was done ;)

What a lovely boy :hearts: Fingers crossed then ;)

Is there anyone out there tracking countries that have met the Alpine Olympic standard already? There have been enough SAC races for it to be possible I think.

Singapore is 2 races out from qualifying their first ever skier.

After a rough look I see 16 countries that have secured the minimum standards for at least one athlete. I think there will be a few more today in Perito Moreno. Aruwin Salehhuddin of Malaysia was a surprise to me, but I see that she qualified for Beijing as well.

Where did you find the ranking?or you count it by yourself?

Counted it by myself, was hoping that someone out there is compiling something since the FIS probably won't until next season.

In alpine skiing one can still actually qualify through the points gained in whichever race? :yikes:

They abandoned that in cross-country skiing, and rightfully so :p

I believe that yesterday's result in Cerro Catedral confirms Faiz Basha has met the Olympic Criteria.  FIS points not finalized yet for some reason, but his result should easily be better than what he needed.

That confirms our first returning nation to the WOG!

    • ""The most important thing, in my opinion, is mental preparation" - Maria Vynnyk said this on Thursday after winning the first major gold medal; maybe this is where the secret lies. As you said, Ukrainian girls have always been strong, but not dominant at continental level; my conjecture is that the Russian invasion has made them mentally stronger, giving them that extra edge needed to tilt the balance in the final stages of a competition.
