Are these Olympic Games going to reach 100 medal-winning nations for the first time? (88/100)

Recommended Posts

So today was a good day with +6 in or count, so we are now at 58 !

We gain :AIN :DOM :CUB :CPV :UGA :ETH. Cabo Verde is the first country from the group 7 ! (we were so close to 2 countries from the group 7 here, but it was too hard for Cayman Islands...)

In Group 1, we are at 23/26. The first medal for Jamaica, Denmark and Kenya are waited...

Tomorrow morning, we can maybe add :

Shooting 25m Pistol W :IRI :VIE

Equestrian Dressage Team :FIN :DEN

Rowing Single Sculls W :BUL :LTU

Sailing Windsurfing M/W :PER :ARU

Cycling Road Race :DEN :ERI

After one week of Olympic Games, here are what we can expect from the following week :

Team Sports

- In Football M, Morocco (groupe 4) is in Semi-Final ! They have to beat Spain or the loser from France-Egypt match to win a medal.

- In Football W, Colombia (groupe 2) is still in Quarter-Final, and have also to beat Spain.

- In Handball M, Denmark (1) and Norway (2) finish easily the pool phase. We should know their next opponent in Quarterfinals on Sunday.

- These 2 countries are also already qualified for quarterfinals in Handball W ! But we also have Angola (7) ! They have to beat Brazil tomorrow to go to Quarterfinals.

- In Waterpolo M, it's difficult for Montenegro (6) who is 5th in their pool. They have to beat USA and/or Romania to continue...

- In Basket-Ball M, South Sudan (7) and Puerto Rico (5) are in the same groupe, with USA. South Sudan has already lose between them and have to beat Serbia to continue (finalist of the last World Cup), and Puerto Rico will be against USA... So they should bet on the best 3rd !

- In Basket-Ball W, it seems easier for Puerto Rico (5) in groupe A, and they have to beat China to have a chance to pass, but also for Nigeria (5), second of their pool. They are against Canada in the last match of the phase, the last of the pool.

- In Basket-Ball 3x3, we have Lithuania (3) and Latvia (5) in the big pool. Latvia, the title holder, is already qualified for the Semi-final, so pretty close from a medal. Lithuania should qualifiy themself for the quarterfinal, but they are against Serbia in the last match, the 2nd of the group.

- In Volleyball W, Kenya (1) is last of their pool, and should qualify them if they beat Japan to go to knockout phase.

- In Beach Volley M, Qatar (5) and Norway (2) are qualified for the bracket, and we should know their opponent tomorrow. That's not that easy for Chile (5), who should go to lucky loser bracket...

- In Beach Volley W, Latvia (5) and Paraguay (6) are both in pool D, but last after Switzerland and Canada. Latvia could go directly to round of 16 if they beat Canada, but Paraguay should not hope better that Lucky Loser phase if they beat Switzerland.

no new countries in Field Hockey

Already started Events

- In Archery Single M, Santiago Arcila from Colombia (2) is in Round of 16, but will challenge Kim je-deok, the south-korean who finished 2e in the ranking round, where Arcila finished 15e. So it will be difficult for him

- In Archery Single W, it's the indonesian (3) Diananda Choirunisa who's in Round of 16. She finished 6th in Ranking round and the best player in her quarter part is already out, so she have good chances to go to the Semifinals ! We will see that tomorrow, against the indian Bhajan Kaur...

- In Badminton, two teams of Malaisian players (3) are in the match for the Bronze in Team M AND Team W ! We hope we will win something tomorrow or on Sunday !

- btw the malaisian players in Team M will be against Denmark (1), so whatever happens in this match, we should win a new country !

- In Badminton Single M in Semifinals, we have 3 of 4 countries who are good for us : Thailand (2) against Malaysia (3) and Denmark (1) against India ! We hope the indian player will finish 4th lol

- In Badminton Single W, they are still in Quarterfinals, but we have a match between Indonesia (3) and Thailand (2). The winner should play against the number one, so it would be hard...

- In Boxing -50kg W, 4 countries can have a medal tomorrow : Thailand (2), Colombia (2), Finland (4) and Philippines (5). Except for Colombian player, all of their opponents are seeded, so it's not already won...

- In Boxing -57kg W, they are 3 : Bulgaria (2), Philippines (5) and Puerto Rico (5). To get a medal, the bulgarian player will be against the number one in their category. The other seems to be against an easier opponent !

- In Boxing -66kg W, we have Thailand (2) and Algeria (5). The thai player is against the seed 1. For the algerian Imane Khelif, her opponent can be disqualified after the controversial sentences from her hungarian opponent, so maybe she has already her medal !

- In Boxing -75kg W, Morocco (4) and Panama (6) are here. The Morocco player is against the seeded 5, whereas the Panama player is herself seeded, so she has a big chance to bring the first medal since 2008 to her country ! We also have the Refugee Comitee Cindy Ngamba, and she also has big chances.

- In Boxing -57kg, we have Philippines (5), Kyrgyzstan (5) and Bulgaria (2). All of them are against stronger opponent...

- In Boxing -71kg, we have Bulgaria (2), Denmark (1) and Jordan (5). None of them is against a seeded opponent, so it could be good for them !

- In Fencing, it's only remains 2 events. And in Team Sabre W, we will support Algeria (5) who will start the competition against France.

- In Golf M, we are now at the 2nd round of 4, and we have the Chile (5) player Joaquin Niemann who's still in top10 !

- In Artistic Gymnastic for each appartus, we have :

  • Carlos Edriel Yulo from Philippines (5) in Floor M (finished 2nd in qualifies)
  • Vahagn Davtyan from Armenia (5) in Rings M
  • Carlos Edriel Yulo from Philippines (5), Vahagn Davtyan from Armenia (5) and Mahdi Olfari from Iran (2) in Vault M
  • Angel Barajas from Colombia (2)  in Horizontal Bar M
  • Valentina Georgieva from Bulgaria (2) in Vault W
  • Kaylia Nemour from Algeria (5) in Uneven Bars W (the best player in this category nowaday)

- In Judo in the Mixed Team Event, we will watch the results from the Refugee Comitee, who will start against Spain

- In Rowing in Skiff W, Lithuania (3) and Bulgaria (2) are in Final. The lithuanian Viktorija Senkutė finished the semifinal with the second best time, so we will particullary watch her tomorrow.

- In Sailing Windsurfing, we have Aruba (7) and Peru (7) are both in quarterfinals ! There seems not have big chances, but we will root for them !

- In Shooting 25m Pistol W, Iran (2) and Vietnam (5) players are in final. The iranian Hanieh Rostamian finished the qualification phase on the third place !

- In Shooting Skeet M, Peru (7) is not to far from a qualification !

- In Surfing, Peru (7) and Costa Rica (7) are in Semifinals ! First in men category, and second in women. The peruvian Alonso Correa (seeded 5) meats the french Kauli Vaast (seeded 3), where the big surprise Brisa Hennessy (seeded 15) meats the number one, the brasilian Tatiana Weston. We hope they will win at least a bronze : Costa Rica didn't win any medal since 2000, and Peru since 1992 !

- No new country expected in Single Table Tennis. However, Thailand (2) will play in Women Team Event ! First match against France.

- And finally in Athletism :

  • Kenya (1), Norway (2) and Maroc (4) are directally qualified for the semifinals for 1500m M (the kenyan player finished 5th)
  • Norway (2) is in final of Hammer throwing M
  • Cyprus (6) is in final of High Jump W
  • Kenya (1), Norway (2), Burundi (6), Finland (4) and Venezuela (4) are in final of 5000m W
  • Jamaica (1) and Dominica (7) are in final of Triple Jump W
  • Jamaica (1) is in final of Mixed 4x400m
  • Norway (2), Jamaica (1), Nigeria (5) are in final of Shot Put M
  • Jamaica (1), Côte d'Ivoire (6), Saint Lucia (7) and Nigeria (5) are in Semifinal of 100m W, with big chances for the first 3 !

Here are where we are now. I'd try to do the same thing everyday, with the events from the day before. I hope you enjoyed it !

At least silver for :DEN in Team Dressage.

Hoping for more an that a 81% is enough.

It's the turn of :PHI to get their first medal ! In Gymnastic Artistic Floor M, he is far enough to get something.

We are now at 61 !

:THA :ALG win their first medal in Boxing +66kg W ! They win their quarterfinal, and they will meet each other in semifinals.

That's mean +5 today (and it seems not finished), and so we are now at 63, only one country away from the total in Barcelona 92 !

Tonight, we will maybe have the first medals in History for Saint-Lucia and Dominica

But for now on, we can add medals for :KGZ and :BUL in Boxing -57kg !

65 now, and +7 today ! And it's not finish !

:LCA Julien Alfred becomes first Saint Lucian to win an Olympic medal by winning one of the biggest medals of the games - women's 100m gold.

Dominica :DMA joins too with Théa Lafond in Triple Jump !!!!

Jamaica :JAM has also win their first medal in this JO, so we are now at 68 !

And it lasts Decathlon (with maybe Norway, Estonia and Grenada) and Surfing (with Peru and Costa Rica)

Caraibbean are in honor tonight ! :LCA :DMA :JAM
