Looked like they had taken a different line to the other boats heading to the second mark, but I couldn't tell if they had made up places or were still struggling at the back. Probably just as well it was abandoned on balance.

The Croatians had stalled so we were back in a medal

With those conditions though it could have easily went the other way again. So it’s a good thing they abandoned it and let it be raced in better conditions to allow the sailors a fair crack at the medal race.

Oh yeah. Absolutely. Turned into a lottery. The Spanish were flying and literally came to a stop.

I'm just saying it wasn’t certain we were about to lose that medal

Ah sailing, don't ever stop being the most frustrating sport to watch in the Olympics.*

*Apart from possibly boxing...

Sailing called off for the day. Means there will be five finals for Ireland tomorrow - potentially six in the event Fannon makes the 50 free final.

A gold medal tomorrow for our men’s lightweight double rowers would mean we’ve already surpassed our Tokyo 2020 performance and would begin to zone in on surpassing Atlanta as our best Olympics on record.

Yes, getting close. Personally I'd consider London to be out best up to now - 6 medals including a gold - as the medals were won by six different people across three sports. So seven medals including the gold we have already won, or six medals with two golds would surpass it. We've already covered three sports in our medal wins this time as well.

It's hard to see us not doing that from here - gold for the lightweights looks more likely than not at this point and Wiffen will likely medal at least once more in these games. So that alone would get us to six including at least 2 golds, with multiple chances to add further to that as well, and hopefully win in a record fourth different sport.

The dream scenario would be to better both the total medals from London and the total golds from Atlanta. That remains very possible, but not near as certain as the other target.
