Wow this is quite unexpected. I was not even hoping to get a quota here. Though in the last Asian qualifier, she was just a match short from qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

 

She’s not actually our first ever fencer to compete in the Olympics, the last time PHI had a fencer qualify was 32yrs ago, ‘92 Barcelona

There will be two Filipino fencers competing in the women’s foil. Aside from Samantha Catantan representing the Philippines, there is also Maxine Esteban representing the Ivory Coast after she changed nationalities.
