Quite the headline.

Oddest thing being that it was declared a DNS, while it very clearly was a DQ.

On a side note: as someone who also writes articles about sports, don't you find it annoying that they literally write down the quotes, even when they are just....wrong? Like "they was just taking too long", "them blocks look like" and "we at a professional meet" :p

Personally, I think it's important to provide an authenic account of what is said by the athletes being interviewed. In this instance, Kerley's using a lot of AAVE (African American Vernacular English), so the quotes aren't really "wrong," so much as following a modified gramatical structure from standard English.

Here's some info about AAVE for users who haven't heard of it: https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/african-american-vernacular-english

Not your typical athletics venue. Tomorrow there will be a pole vault meeting at the national museum of air and space near Paris.

Renaud Lavillenie will be there chasing for the olympic qualification.

But don’t forget the easy, logical & consistent Golden Rule:

Huckleberry Finn is racist badthing because it uses the AAVE of 1840.

Tom & Jerry cartoons are racist badthing because they use the AAVE of 1940-1950.

A newspaper article is racist badthing because it it does NOT use the AAVE of 2024.

See?  Simple.
