Day 1 draw for Grand Slam Champions Series Final has been released.

Neither of the :GBR in action - Aaliyah Powell or Lauren Williams - have a great draw in the -67Kg event as they have been drawn against the number 1 and number 2 seeds in the quarterfinals (assuming they make it through their opening fight).

Aaliyah Powell is drawn against :UZB Ozoda Sobirjonova in the round of 16. They fought in the quarterfinals of the OQT earlier in the week and Powell came through in a tight match so every chance that she could repeat that tomorrow. If successful, Powell would then be against top seed :CHN Jie Song. Song is currently ranked 11th in the Olympic qualifier list and Powell is in pretty good form so she'll have every reason to think she could win that fight. If she gets through to the semi-finals, Powell would face either 4th seed :KOR Hyo rim Hong or 5th seed :CIV Ruth Gbagbi who face each other in the quarterfinals (this will be a repeat of the OQT Quarterfinal which was won by Hong). Hong

Lauren Williams will fight :IOC Lilliia Khuzina in the round of 16. They fought in the semifinals of the OQT and Khuzina overwhelmed Williams. The hope is that having had a couple of days off, Williams might be a bit fresher when they fight in the morning. If she can prevail, then she would face 2nd seed :ESP Cecilia Castro Burgos.  The Spaniard lost in the first round of the OQT so not sure what her form is like.

It is a quarterfinal exit for :GBR Powell as she loses out to top seed :CHN Jie Song 2-0 (0-8, 1-8). Some very weird scoring going on in the fight though with the score having to be corrected twice after Song was awarded points for phantom kicks.

Is there a link anywhere for live results?

nope

but it's not hard to find out the finalists

so far AIN (RUS) won the +80kg quota. with two Chinese fighters in 67kg final that quota will be transferred to Ruth Gbagbi (6th place in WR)

49kg quota will be between TUR and KOR and (TUR already has the quota)
68kg final is between CHN and CRO and the winner goes to Paris

OK it's done

here are the quotas

68kg: :CHN Liang

+80kg: :RUS AIN Larin

49kg: :TUR Akgul (Turkey already has the quota) therefore :CHN Quo

67kg: :CHN Song (China already has the quota) therefore :CIV Gbagbi

I highly doubt I'm wrong but nothing is 100% final until WT officially confirms it.

    • Greece and Portugal also have winter sports centres - but of course these are not homologated routes for World Cup competitions I have never been to Albania personally, so I don't know the country at all. I have been in southern Croatia, though, and there are mountains there but you definitely can't ski there (I was there in the summer, but it's also impossible in the winter). World cup taking place there only in Zagreb.    In general the case of Colturi and Kostelic is completely different: Colturi has no ties to Albania and Janica Kostelic was Croatian and didn't left their country even though at the beginning of her carrier (and also her brother Ivica) her father had to pay for everything and the federation's support was zero. This only changed later. I imagine that the Kostelic family had offers from other countries (Austria, Switzerland, Italy?) to compete for them, which were much richer (at the beginning of the 21st century Croatia was a very poor country and devastated by war). All the more respect for them because they were true Croatian patriots until the end. I can imagine the Colturi family in a similar situation... Her mother would probably negotiate with half of Alpine Europe for Lara to compete for them Which of course doesn't change the fact that the Italian federation completely gave a shit in this situation. They let such talent go in a situation where they hasn`t a single female athlete on the podium of the World Cup in slalom for a dozen or so years. In the giant slalom it's not much better either, only there the older athletes cloud the picture: Brignone and Bassino. However, behind these two there is absolutely nothing...
    • Atalanta is probably playing the most beautiful football in Europe right now: spectacular and effective. It's nice to watch and they don't have to spend a lot of money for it.   Inter is playing very economically. It's not impressive but it's consistently collecting points. It's also the only team in the Champions League that hasn't conceded a goal this season.   Milan played very poorly yesterday but they won. They have 9 points and are close to qualifying for the play-offs.
