Hopefully it costs a fortune for very little gain.

It does feel a  bit like World Aquatics owed Doha or whereever the Worlds for ... reasons... saw the shambolic World Athletics there and realised it was a perfect fit for 2024 - just get it over with in the one year eyeballs will be on swimming somewhere else anyway, and no-one will remember duff Worlds in empty arenas.

Of course, in years to come, a handful of swimmers will be able to make hay on their status of World Champion in a weakened event - but then, that opportunity was open to European Champs in Olympic year too, so no harm, no foul.

They should have just offered them 2025.

I'd suggest seeing the calamatous empty stadia when athletics took its worlds there, they thought 2024 would be a good place to bury a dead champs, which everyone will forget a few months later when the 'Lympics is on anyway...

:ITA Thomas Ceccon likely to skip the World Champs (decision not official yet, but his coach released an inteview that basically confirmes that)

p.s. the 50m Pool Europeans will be held from June 10th through June 23rd, site is still TBA...that's crazy! it means that not a single swimmer going to Paris will be there, wherever they will be

The :GBR team was supposed to be selected at the beginning of October and announced at the end of November but not sure that they stuck to their own schedule.

Got announced that it will be in Belgrade. I would imagine some swimmers would use it as a last chance to qualify for the Olympics.

Some might also use it as a practice for the Olympics, meaning very few will be peaking for this event.

:ITA have already announced that none of the selected swimmers for the Games will show up in Belgrade and that it will be the guys coming off the youth ranks' chance to make an impression an earn some consideration for the next Olympic cycle

the last chance for our swimmers will be, as usual, in Rome at Settecolli meet just a few days earlier

How often per year can a swimmer reach his peak?

Expand

in the old glory days, it was normally twice a year...

nowadays there are new training methods, new ideas, a lot more scientific knowledge around physiology, some money can be earned in the commercial meets (that didn't exist until a few years ago)...

so, many swimmers can keep a very high level of performance through almost the whole season, or at least through the main stints in a season

but a true peak, really at 100% of their chances, it's maybe twice a year for those who have tough internal selection, if not even only once a year (the "Big" event) for those who can afford that (the stronger Italians, for instance, are among them)

    • has no NOC criteria this year. The Biathlon federation is requiring a top 60 in a World Cup or a top 10 in an IBU cup over the entire qualification period.   https://content-api.teambelgium.be/storage/files/file_fr/182.pdf https://teambelgium.sharepoint.com/sites/TopSportHub/HPM/Forms/AllItems.aspx?id=%2Fsites%2FTopSportHub%2FHPM%2FSel-Crit%2F1-OG%2FW-2026-MilanoCortina%2FCrit-National%2Fcritsel BTH MiCo 2026 FR version 1.0.pdf&parent=%2Fsites%2FTopSportHub%2FHPM%2FSel-Crit%2F1-OG%2FW-2026-MilanoCortina%2FCrit-National&p=true&ga=1
    • either way if i was caudery or moser ,i wouldn't give a damn the old offical would get his balls punted.
    • i would honestly question if the bar was put back on properly both Caudery and sutej pretty much jumped over perfectly on the third attempt and it fell off.
    • No medal for Caudery. She celebrated the first attempt at 4.75 with room to spare and clipped it on the way down and also failed the other two attempts.
    • Meziane trips over the inside kerb and goes out in men's 800 SF.
    • Caudery is about to bitchslap an official .
    • yeah, obviously that was wind aided,it didn't come during the world record meet tough,it happened later on.and as i said he was apparently in 68 meter form in training there, the wind there doesn't always help out.
