Basically all of the favourites avoided each other. At least Kramer has to go early and seems to be in fantastic shape, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get awfully close to the WR.

and we are underway...

 

first Italian athlete, Noemi Bonazza in the women's 3000m and first disappointing outing...PB of 4.04 (in Hereenveen), she skated 4.08 in SLC...:wall:

 

she totally missed out on her peaking, to say the least...:spank:

 

by the way, our National TV has blocked the YT broadcast, as they are also showing this event...in streaming on their website with Italian commentary only (of course an awful commentary) and with the wonderful resolution of 404p...:yikes::hairpull::wall:

 

I'd better watch some football on tv...:zip::bones:

So far most people are 'disappointing' (as in, not getting their PB's). One of the Dutch commentators has of course already mentioned the L-word...luchtcirculatie, meaning air circulation --> the thing that, according to him, has a huge influence on the results. There's not enough air circulation from riders on the warmup track yet :lol: 

 

Always when there's a false start, one can hear him say how it'll affect the times 'because there is a little break and so the air circulation is broken' :p

yeah, but most people have PB skated in calgary or SLC, which makes it less obvious to improve each and every time...

 

Bonazza's best came in Hereenveen earlier this season (the first one she's trying to switch from the shorter distances to the 1500m/3000m disciplines)...

 

so, in this particular case it's normal to expect people improving from time time, especially when you go from a sea level european track to the altitude North American ice ovals...

 

but something must have happened with her, since she's having the worst 2 weeks of the season (I hope she's not sick)...

 

p.s. Achtereekte...wow!

      will have 5 representatives in Luge at the 2026 Olympics.      Jozef Ninis (Top pic) in the M Singles will compete at his 6th consecutive WOG !!! He debuted in Torino 2006 to close the circle in another Italian resort in 2026, by this he set the new Slovak Winter Olympic record of participation and tie the all time one with Erik Vlček competing at 6 games in Sprint Canoeing as well.   The remaining quartet (Pic 2) will debut at the Olympics, all still Juniors Christián Bosman & Bruno Mick in the M Doubles and still schoolgirls Viktória Praxová & Desana Špitzová in the olympic premiere of the W Doubles     Must also be said, that we were quite unlucky in this qualifiers periode, Marián Skupek missed the second M Singles quota by 1 point and ended first non-qualified athlete and the experienced pair Vaverčák/Zmij whoch was in clear qualifying position ended the season after Vaverčák broke his knee in the training in Sigulda 2 weeks ago   Also for the first time no W Singles participation for us meaning also obviously no participation in the Mixed Relay competition for the first time as well   Team (Updated as of 12th January 2026) 40 Athletes (30 M + 10 W)

      Hypothetically she could meet the minimum standards still with a high placement in the NAC event tomorrow. Seems unlikely to me, but still possible.

      Yea she did not meet the minimum points. Since the event doesn't have enough qualifiers, its possible the FIS still grants her a quota
