FIFA WC 2026 will play at SoFi Stadium in LA

note: California Memorial Stadium is the campus of the University of California in  nearBerkeley (as said @NearPup)

Will FIFA re-name SoFi for World Cup (since it's not an official FIFA sponsor?).

In 1994 they did play WCup matches at NFL stadiums (Soldier Field and RFK in Washington off the top of my head).

Yes. Other stadiums as well. Toronto's will be known as "Toronto Stadium"

Rose Bowl was a Top 10 stadium by capacity back then and most of the biggest outdoor stadiums in USA belong to the filthy rich private universities anyway.

Yeah, I remember how the crossbar broke. :MEX Marcelino Bernal was the player who broke the thing but they quickly replaced it. I remember how amazed I was since nobody really had any clue how it works over in Europe (where admittedly it probably never happened since they phased out the wooden posts :p ).

He's sort of right. It was built as a multi sport venue and hosted baseball and Canadian football teams (along with soccer games) years ago. However, its now been converted to a baseball only venue.

I'm old enough to remember the old days when the Raptors used to play there, I know it was built as a multi-purpose facility, but now it's been renewed and it's a true baseball field (actually, one of my favourite MLB stadiums -among the "modern" ones of course, Wrigley, Fenway and Chavez Ravine are still unmatched)

in any case, the question was about the world cup venue and our troll was wrong from the beginning

you know that all these stadiums have been built by the Chinese government in exchange for any sort of concession -political and economical, don't you?

    • It's hard to believe it was still in this calendar year
    • In last year, we were were happy with Brignone's wins, and today we're excite that della Mea is in the top 10... It's hard to imagine a bigger fall... And Goggia should give up on the giant slalom and focus on the speed events – Vonn isn't wasting time on the giant slalom, but is training for downhill and SG. Goggia last one finished on the podium in the giant slalom in march 2018, and she has no any chance of winning an Olympic medal at the regular competition. It's a waste of time and energy to finish 8th or 9th and risk injury. And we have to accept that without Brignone, we have no chance of winning a medal in the giant slalom in Cortina, and that's it.
    • yeah, just like Anna Trocker earlier Today   I think this is the best way to blow them    they're not ready for the world cup stage yet, but we're so bad right now that our coaches are digging deep
    • Some surprises and fun results so far at this year's Worlds. Like a few minutes ago, when  Harrysson made the 1/8 with another very good performance. Now he plays Jonny Clayton, who this afternoon made a stellar performance in a tough battle with Zonneveld. I don't see an easy match for Clayton, even though on paper he would have wished such an opponent for a 1/8 before the tournament.   Also i'm delighted that my fav Gary Anderson seems to be in good form, though at his age, he is prone to sudden bad matches at any time.
