do I Understand correctly that same athlete. can win two quotes for one NOC?

For example the Japanese WCH in 2022 and now 4th here could gain two Quota for Japan?

What happens if he ends up also in the top 6 next year in the Qualifiers series.

all so confusing.

And yes the only safe quota is South Africa

the qualification document would suggest that this would be the case.

The quotas awarded next year through the OQS will be to the top 6 athletes and are specific to those athletes. The quotas available from the world champs )both this year's and last) are awarded to the NOC.

So if Rimu Nakamura finishes in the top 6 next year, he would get a quota and Japan would be able to name second rider based on their 2022 world champs quota. Likewise, if Reilly finishes in the top 6, GBR will be able to do the same.

Maybe - but maybe not. :d Would say they have provisional quotas - these results have lowest priority for quota and will instead be used to deliver continental representation but we wont know until after the completion of OQS. If I had to guess, would think that the American may lose out.

With only six qualifiers from the qualifying process it will be tough although not impossible for South America to qualify anyone so they are likely to pick up the Australian quota. There are no guarantees on the British quota either but they have the best chance of retaining it.

Any NOC quotas that have to be allocated to ensure representation from every continent will come from placings at the 2022 WC rather than this year's.

I think the problem with that is there was no representative from Africa in the 2022 competition so the reallocation drops down to the next event in the hierarchy which is the 2023 WC.

Lol. It does bring the system into disrepute when you're left scrambling around trying to find a continental representative in a field of just twelve. Both the sport and the IOC need to invest in the sport in Africa to avoid this in future.

Not sure whether there are separate quotas for North and South America or whether they go for Pan-American approach. Have a feeling it may be the former in which case, Jose Torres Gil :ARG would be in line to take USA's 2022 WC quota which is a bit unfortunate for USA given they'll probably lose their 2023 WC quota to South Africa - and a rider who had a highest score of 33.

Why would they lose their 2022 quota?

Because the qualification system is a mess :hairpull:

According to the qualification document:

"The highest ranked NOC from a continent which has not yet qualified any quota places through the Olympic Qualifier Series will qualify a maximum of one quota place"

So if it is separate quotas for South America is required, it would be allocated from 2022 results.
