Road Cycling 2020 Discussion Thread

If rumours are true (and it seems highly likely) Bjarne Riis will tomorrow announce that he and Virtu Cycling are new co-owners of NTT Pro Cycling Team.

Danish rider Michael Carbel should also be joining the team.

Time for another "Africa's Team" comment, @heywoodu? :p

They seem to have now officially given up on the Africa's Team gimmick, although their announcements are still absolute pearls of total bullshit. Every single rider is announced as a huge addition to the team, someone with awesome results and so on....when in reality for example they have an 11th place in stage X of some random tour in China as best result :p

Ugh, why does it feel so predictable to have something like this in Minsk of all places? Maybe because the rest of Europe isn't interested :p

Great by the way, now places with an excellent layout for a great road race but without a nearby track or mountainbike course or BMX track can't have the champs anymore. This sounds almost as stupid as the ISU's combined speed skating world championships..

I think that this new format will be used every 4/2 years.. so the other venue will host the "single" ECh (like in waterpolo)

Every four years, luckily. I hope they won't increase that to every two years..

This can safely go here too, since it's a bit of a bombshell in terms of names (obviously not in terms of surprise).

Not really that big news that there has been some suspicion about Astana in general and Fuglsang's massive season. Only really newsworthy if further investigations gives some proof.

    • Yeah,I said before Xmas that when the  women lose a superstar someone always comes through who responds to the best coaches & slowly gains the confidence to win the big races.  Looks like she has arrived just in time
    • Now I looked at the results and I was very happy that Italy was 2nd, but when I saw Lisa's last split on skis, I was a bit worried
    • 2nd place for Italy is great, but I'm worried about Lisa's weak run on skies in the last stage, and without a fast run there will be no individual medals in Cortina In normal form, Vittozzi shouldn't lose more than 10 seconds to the Norwegian on the last split from the shooting range to the finish line. Perhaps Lisa has had some hard training - she missed the stage in Oberhot and that's why her form in the run on skies is a bit weaker?
    • First of all in: Big Air, Slopestyle etc. are disciplines where judges decide the results 100% and this is bad. The average person, when they turn it on during the Olympics, has no idea why someone is 1st or 3rd, but when he turn on alpine snowboarding, he see who finished 1st and who 2nd.
    • got a 2 min penalty for no tag at the exchange
    • I wish our TV had such a good reason to show SB too
    • On the other hand, why bother with snowboardcross, which only has 1 or 2 World Cup appearances in a single season before OG, due to a lack of sufficient route? For me, it's also a dead sport, just like Nordic combined has been for some time now, with many World Cup races being canceled. For today, I would prefer team competitions in alpine snowboarding to snowboardcross, if only because in this first there are regular World Cup competitions every 1-2 weeks, and not 1-2 for the entire season.
    • not anymore...   now Czech TV shows mainly alpine SB because of Ledecka and now also the young rising star Maderova
    • I understand )) It is a shame that these reallocations in FIS disciplines may happen too late.   As far as I know FIL had consultations wirth the IOC and quickly removed 3 incorrect AIN`s after that. I do not know if FIS did the same but it looks like they did not. Since we see a lot of AIN statuses for people who do not meet the requirements. Thus some reallocations may come only after the AINERP review. I can say nothing on Zueva right now. She is not cleared by the IOC yet, by the way. But Belorussians (or at least rrepresenting Belarus now) behave lin different way. Russians on the other hand prefer to show loyoalty to the regime since it provide them with substential benefits and positions in local administrations and parliaments.
    • I would say it highly depends on the traditions of some disciplines in certain countries.   Our national sport TV boradcated Aerials live last season. Czech Reuplic has it in the prime-time of its national sports channel as far as I know. Yes Valenta won his gold more then 20 years ago but it does not matter.
