Recommended Posts

Second time in a row that China's women's team qualify to the Olympics on a sudden death shoot-out... they beat Ireland in a shoot out to qualify for Rio.

Belgium were always going to find it difficult, no matter how they are in Europe, a packed motivating crowd is more than enough for China. The only way they could win it was by aggregate score of good margin!

No commentator, that was not a retake by China

Meh :(

He still thinks it is retaken.

He even can't do simple math.

Besides, if it was indeed a retake, it'd have been 2-1 after five shoot-outs, meaning it would be over and China would be celebrating instead of waiting for the next Belgian attempt

:ESP 2-0 (Agg. 4-1) :KOR

Our women's national team becomes the 6th Spanish team to qualify for Tokyo 2020 (2 field hockey + 2 waterpolo + basketball M + football M). Good job!

Korea women will miss the olympic games for the first time since 1984.

A pity considering it was agreed recently that they would present an unified team with N. Korea in this sport for Tokyo.

Still, they have a small hope to qualify if South Africa withdraws and all the higher ranked teams win their play-offs.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
