Who watches ski jumping in Holland anyway?

Obviously not as many people in Poland, as I'm sure you could have guessed, but since it's generally on Eurosport, people do of course watch.

Eurosport has literally nothing though, can't remember the last time that happened with a men's World Cup.

Eurosport is owned by Discovery as you may know. I checked on some Polish forums and it turns out EBU (European Broadcasting Union) contacted the Romanian Federation on the behalf of TVP and bought exclusiv rights to show the Rasnov events on Polish TV. Therefore Discovery (ES) can't buy the sub-license from InFront Media because InFront doesn't have TV rights for Rasnov to begin with (EBU has them). So ARD and ORF will still show this since they are members of the EBU but EuroSport is obviously not.

So yeah, it's actually TVP's fault you can't watch Rasnov on ES :p

Great, so EBU spent money on the World Cup with probably the least interest of the entire season :d

All sort of weird though, the Romanian Federation being in charge of this. It really should be FIS who decides it for the entire season, not only for select events..

i believe there are a couple other deals like this.  Check the eurovisionsports.tv website.  There is obviously a seperate license for all FIS events that take place in Switzerland, like today’s Alpine race.

Yeah, FIS events in Switzerland are often rather annoying, with not even FIS themselves having images available of them..come on.

EuroSport doesn't own any rights, they can only buy them. EBU still provides the TV signal in all European-based events. EuroSport only buys the sub-license from a third-party like InFront Media. This has changed from years gone by when ES was still owned by Canal +. Canal + belongs to EBU but Discovery doesn't.

Actually this is why ES doesn't show figure skating from this season anymore. ISU struck a deal with CBS in 2019 and CBS, NBC & ABC are afiliated with EBU but Discovery isn't a part of any of these networks.

I suppose EBU paid the Romanians more money than InFront Media for the broadcasting rights so they didn't care Rasnov won't be shown on ES :p

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
