Question to anyone who sees this...I'm seeing this thread show up under 'Latest Replies' along with all the other normal (non-club) forum threads, but do others also see it there?  I've never seen another club's posts in the 'Latest Replies' list on the main page (just in the righthand column with the other club tings).  Just wanting to see what others saw.

Only users who are part of the club see the threads in the "Latest replies" box

This will be a nice way of analyzing the amount of medals that we (Team USA) can win come LA 2028.

Question: What are sports where our men dominate more than our women?

 

I can think of several where the reverse is true, or where we equally dominate (or suck lol): Alpine Skiing (if you'll allow me to pull from Winter Sports), Swimming, Soccer all feature a stronger Female roster.  I'd even give women the slight edge in Gymnastics and Figure Skating (even more so were it not for Ilia).  We are equally as good in Baseball/Softball and Basketball, I'd say.  We were equally as dominant this year in Ice Hockey (but it was the first time for the men in a long time).

 

In Paris, we had 52 medals won by men vs 68 won by women.

 

In MiCo, it was 12 for men vs 17 for women.

 

I mean, woman power all day, but it's also great to see our men shine, too!  It's interesting to see the discrepancies in the medal breakdown by gender, especially when you compare this to all the current rhetoric in society in boosting the presence (and pay) of women's sport.  I mean, look at the Olympics...our women are killing it!  Does this perhaps say something to the support the  has for women's sport vs. the rest of the world?  (more willingness to fund, etc.)  Or are we simply blessed currently with a stacked roster?

I don't a comprehensive answer but my memory is that there were two sports in Paris 2024 where US men outdid the women, and a bit surprisingly at that:  Water polo, where the men got the bronze and women did not make the podium, upending years of being a dominant power;  and Rowing, where the Mens 4 dominated the field and the Mens 8 got a bronze, and again the women were shut out.  Up to 2024 I think the women's crews consistently out-medaled the men.  

 

As far as why, I think, yeah, that other countries don't fund womens sports as seriously.
