The men won their opening game as well. 4-1 against Japan.
Canada crushed S. Korea 11-0 among Men and 16-0 Taipei among women in the hockey opening day
Also It will be hard to beat the Netherlands and Norway in the team and I'm still afraid that the USA will put Stolz on the team... I hope that the Italians will prepare the ice for Ghiotto and he will be able to test the conditions there in advance.
I'm counting on the same in luge, although the results of the Italian team there are so poor that even knowledge of the track probably won't help
it will depend also a lot on the track and the ice quality
I think the track in Milan will be quite slow, which would favor Ghiotto also in the 5k (and damage somehow Lollobrigida, who could really be a contender in the 3k on a very quick track)
For me the Czech is still too young to be afraid of in 1 year. On the other hand, Eitrem will be very dangerous in 5 km and Roest was always 1 step ahead of Ghiotto in the last 2-3 rounds. If Ghiotto is counting on a double, he has to make progress in 5 km.
It doesn't look like the Swede will be back in 2026...

Despite everything I thought German women's hockey was much better: bigger country, more players and greater traditions. Btw., do they naturalize people for the women's team in Hungary, like in China?
#7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face #8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCAA National Championship Game on Monday, January 20th in Atlanta
ND defeated #6 Penn State in the first semifinal match, meanwhile OSU edged out #5 Texas in the second semifinal
had the NCAA kept the rules in charge until the last year (only 4 teams going to the playoffs, instead of 12), now we would have a completely different outcome, as none of the top 4 seeded teams could go beyond the quarterfinal stage...
I guess the old fogeys of the NCAA sports committee should make themselves a few questions about that
Eitrem is young and improving, but he's still behind Ghiotto in terms of PB
when he'll have a better one, we can start worrying, not now
Tomorrow, Ghiotto is sure to ride the 10k even if he drops out of the top 8 after the 1500m, as he's the no.1 in the world in the longer distance, where his true opponent in 13 months will be Jilek, not the Norwegian (who's more comfortable with shorter distances) nor the Dutch guys
unless VdP comes back for real...in that case, a different scenario (not good for us) might open
p.s. as @Gianlu33 wrote, Ghiotto and the coaches know that he doesn't stand a chance in the overall ranking, so they decided to try and re-write the history books at the Calgary WC stage, using this weekend as a warm-up test
They invested enormous amount of money in hockey few years ago, it is starting to pay off. I would not be surprised to see one impressive raise of hungarian hockey in the next years
