And if sports changes in the slightest you’re generation becomes a bunch of crying little bitches that preach the end of days! You complain about the younger generation constantly, without even trying what we suggest. I love distance events. The only sports I do are distance events. The 50km still exists, it’s just been improved.

The world has changed. People are busy and have less “free time”. It shouldn’t mean the end of distance events, but we have to find ways to cater to new fans.

You're fighting another political war. I'm OUT.

Go insult someone else. You have insulted me enough already with the "Poles are racist pricks" comments so I should have known better.

Now you're calling me a crying litte bitch. Geez, just how evil are you?

You've ruined the thread about the best winter sport there is.

And will that be an actual biathlon weapon, or the by then 'improved' biathlon weapon of choice...AKA a laser rifle?

Honestly, I just imagined that after I proposed this idea, the other Totallympics members would rally behind me with:

"You'll have my staff"

"And my bow"

"And MY AXE"

Iron Mountain doesn't even have an elevator along the ski jumping hill and you have to climb the hill by foot. Time stood still there since 1996. But they actually hosted the FIS Cup last weekend.

Over in Thunder Bay they have demolished the 1995 World Champs ski jumping hill complex already. It's tough to come there if there is no facility to begin with :p

Because Europeans throw a fit when winter sports leave the continent. Ski Jumping hills are expensive to maintain, and those little communities don’t have the money. There are actually quite a few hills still in operation though.

At least we see something different every run though.

Yeah, one grabs a board a little different or twists 2 degrees the other way or something. And if we're watching the women's competitions there's even less diversity in actions, a twist here, a twist there, that's it.

Me reading this thread:

I wonder how we came from everybody was in favour of having more Individuals, to some saying "your generation has destroyed all traditions in winter sports" or "your generation's greatest contribution was doped athletes"?

The internet is indeed a fascinating place...

They're trying though, and they should also have the balls to sometimes just say "Nah, this isn't it" instead of elevating everything they try to World Cup status anyway "because we can".

Yes, that is exactly what we’ve been saying. We shouldn’t eliminate the individual, but maybe we should modify the format.

Fixed that for you :p

I'll bring my little axe though. Fuck the haters.

That's what they've been doing with the so-called 'short individual'. They should now also have the balls to say "Nope, that didn't actually change anything, so let's forget that."

I have seen the change already. 10k mass start in cross country. And Johaug still wins. The more things change the more they stay the same :p

The point of changing an event is to make it more interesting and competitive. At least Johaug’s competitors can see her, and fans can see the actual difference in skills.

Pretty much the entire top of the world of ski jumping goes to Japan without a problem though. The issue is not 'leaving Europe', the bigger issue is the USA doesn't have it's things in order.

    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Track, there won't be much use in the team. Here, great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
    • December is probably going to be focused on either Italy/Austria or Norway, but the plans are still being made as we speak. Renting a car, driving from the Netherlands down to Italy, finding accomodations and help with preparing the skis and all that...trying to make it as an independent 'solo' athlete is...hard     I can't go and help out, because we got the keys to our house (finally) and there's lots of work to be done there, so it's all happening at the same time and the mind is getting crazy (for both of us)
