The Australians of :LBN beating the English-Australians of  Ireland at half time

Can anyone think of a Lebanese team doing well in a team sport before today?

yeah, they have quite a good tradition in Basketball (other than winning some silver and bronze medals in the Asian competitions, they qualified to the Basketball World Cup a few times and they did even beat Venezuela and France in 2006 and Canada in 2010...they ended up just one win short of qualifying for Beijing 2008 also).

  • 2 weeks later...

Interest in this has tailed off a bit with too many blow-out matches.  However, we have the quarter finals this weekend, so hopefully a bit more drama.

Friday

Australia v Lebanon

Saturday

England v PNG

New Zealand v Fiji

Sunday

Tonga v Samoa

And we have some more exotic flowers joining the competition, with :BRA in the Women's and :ESP & :USA in the Wheelchair RL.

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases

It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places.
