England had Gary Lineker in 1986. They did not need Ian Rush. Brazil would still be winners in 1970 in what is considered their strongest WC winning squad. Bale over Young is an upgrade but not WC winner-changing IMO.

1970 - Best and Law were both European players of the year in the years preceding that.

1986 - Lineker was not at his peak and probably would have been only a substitite and Southall and Ratcliffe were infinitely superior to their English counterparts.

2018 - OK, Bale was better but I admit maybe not enough to make a difference

In the 1986 quarter-final Maradona would not have scored a goal if Southall and Ratcliffe had been playing...

Maybe so but I can't see how England would beat West Germany in 1986 to win the WC ;)

All would have depended on who England would have replaced their coach when it became a Great Britain team. Maybe Alex Ferguson?

even euro you won it 1 time... being the creator of football ...this is bizarre

It's not long along you complained :GBR  have 4 teams in the World Cup but the truth is it weakened the UK chances of winning a major championship.

Maybe 4 British teams not one better team means a stronger chance for :ALG to do well?
