Not the last one either i’m afraid. Hopefully Paris services will work better next year. I wish them all the best here but i have some doubts. How this can happen in an European city & on football fans is beyond belief. What is Europe turning into? Complete failure from the Belgian police. Thoughts are with the victims family & all Swedish fans stuck inside the stadium fearing for their safety! Complete lawlessness. Can you explain what exactly the Belgian police did wrong or failed to do? How do you stop a lonely gunman from shooting people?

It was the Swedish players who took it upon themselves to not play after HT( which is when they heard the news) There were so many lapses, when you organise an international match, the security level should be anyhow elevated. You have foreign fans visiting your country & it is your responsibility to protect them! They need to know how did he get arms so easily in Brussels? Why did it take so long to nab him? If this has happened in Qatar during the WC , the whole international/ western community would have been up in arms blaming the security arrangements, so why not for Brussels? If their is an incident/ loss of life the security system must be questioned and held accountable.
Noorderling29 156 Posted October 17, 2023 #194 Share Posted October 17, 2023 Why should the security level be raised for a match when there are no evident signs of a threat or of hooliganism? Even if it has been raised, would that have prevented an attack of this kind? Most large cities have a significant amount of visitors, both foreign and domestic, every day. Football fans are perhaps more recognizable, especially when they are wearing their team jersey,so are a bit more vulnerable. Unfortunately people get killed by violence, often unprovoked by the victims. It happens in Western Europe, but also for instance in India. Of course an inquiry must be held and where possible lessons must be learned. heywoodu

A few Swedish football fans (yes, on the whole number of foreigners visiting a city like Brussels on a daily basis, it is only a few) really isn't a reason to raise the alert level significantly. For certain matches, like if it were Belgium playing Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey or something like that, yes, security level would be raised (not so much because of terrorist threats, but because those kind of matches are notorious for resulting in trouble). The much bigger issue is in not kicking people out of the country the second there is a hint of radicalization. Which several years ago there apparently was in the case of this Tunisian guy, so there is still a failure in that sense of course. Although somehow I have a feeling Tunisia wouldn't have accepted him back anyway. Federer91 2,276 Posted October 17, 2023 #199 Share Posted October 17, 2023 After all these years, there are still shocked people? How, why? You just need to remind yourselves of the words, of the great ruler of the European Continent from 2015: "Come, everybody come! On walks and boats, plains and trains, come, come now!" Of course, not without the assistance of their BFFs overseas, who enlighten the poor out of their good will. "Asia, no problem, bombs for them! Africa, who that, bombs for them as well. Don't worry regular folks, we are here to help, don't mind destroying your village, city, country. You just need some proper guidance on how to live your life and control your resources." Next time when it happens, people could still act shocked and pander how and why. For the rest, it will be just like reading the weather forecast. Thagard 45 Posted October 17, 2023 #200 Share Posted October 17, 2023 If FIFA considers giving that big trophy to Messi, for an achievement that happened last year, they should consider to split it with Cristiano Ronaldo as they would both deserve it and it would mean the end of these two rivals domination in international football. Messi doesn't deserve it more than Ronaldo if he is to get it.
