Citizenship rules are really relaxed.

I realize that but even then there are some rules...

A player is eligible to participate on a World Baseball Classic team if any one of the following criteria is met

The player is a citizen of the nation the team represents.
The player is qualified for citizenship or to hold a passport under the laws of a nation represented by a team, but has not been granted citizenship or been issued a passport; in this case, the player may be made eligible by WBC upon petition by the player or team.
The player is a permanent legal resident of the nation or territory the team represents.
The player was born in the nation or territory the team represents.
The player has one parent who is, or if deceased was, a citizen of the nation the team represents.
The player has one parent who was born in the nation or territory the team represents.

Let's take Mike Piazza as an example, he was eligible for Italy because Italian law allows the great-grandchild of an Italian to claim citizenship.

But British law is much stricter and I'm struggling to find a reason why the Bahamians are eligible

The pool's have officially been confirmed!

Biggest surprise is that Panama was placed in the Taiwan group while Great Britain is playing in one of the US groups.

Pool A

Taichung

Pool B

Tokyo

Pool C

Phoenix

Pool D

Miami

:CUB Cuba :AUS Australia :CAN Canada :DOM Dominican Republic
:ITA Italy :CHN China :COL Colombia :ISR Israel
:NED Netherlands :CZE Czech Republic :GBR Great Britain :NCA Nicaragua
:PAN Panama :JPN Japan :MEX Mexico :PUR Puerto Rico
:TWN Taiwan :KOR South Korea :USA United States :VEN Venezuela

Panama is definitely the biggest winner here as it seems like any of the 5 teams in Pool A can advance out of the pool.

Czech Republic gets a decent pool as well. They'll basically have no chance against Japan and Korea but are capable of beating China to avoid having to go through the qualification phase in 2026.

Originally thought to be in Pool A, Great Britain now finds itself in Pool C with the other 4 teams being unfavourable matchups. Of course, watch them end up beating Canada just because that's how baseball works.

Nicaragua is definitely the biggest losers here. Their WBC debut will see them play in the group of death and they'll have to face off against the powerhouses of the DR, Puerto Rico, Venezuela along with Israel will be mostly the Jewish American team.

Spain has only 2 Spanish players but we are apparently untitled to have our name written?

    • I will try to make a list of NOCs where we have some active users here but i'm sorry because i surely forgot someone so please add them to the list.   Idea for this thread is who was the best French/Spanish/Italian/Dutch etc. athlete in 2024 in your opinion? You can nominate one athlete for each NOC.
    • I think she’ll get top 6, but no podium. With the amount of medal contenders that we have, there’s gonna be some disappointments (In Beijing we had Kingsbury in moguls even with the silver, Dubreuil in the 500m, men’s ski cross, curling, and our men’s hockey team as the main ones)
    • Let me be clear:  I don't want to promote this product, this drink. That's not the case.   I'm interested in who's competing in Team RB because i think this company gives a lot of money to the athletes and i wonder if they can benefit from it... how many of them will get medals?
    • No medal for Loutitt???   You don't hope for it???
    • That was the same for me. And it's obviously too early, just for fun. Now it's more like predictions for 2024/2025 winter sports World Championships than 2026 olympics actually...   And still - it was done before 24/25 world cup events in some sports started (e.g. nordic combined, downhill and super-G in alpine, skicross etc...)   so it will have to be updated for sure...
