Speed speciallists are focused on Downhill these days, they try SG but most courses are too technical for them to make an impact so GS converts are doing better and better. Weirather, Gut & Veith are like three top "speed speciallists" who excel in SG but Tina DNF, Gut is off-form and Veith obviously injured. And you can't deny someone like Shiffrin talent. It's like 2 or 4 man bob speciallists which you maybe know better since you're a German. There are some guys who do better in 2 or 4 but some can win gold in both.

Like i always said, super g is too technical, it needs to be longer and faster. There should be no super g that lasts less than 90 seconds and no downhill that lasts less than 120 seconds, otherwise Shiffrin will keep exploiting the system. Stanmark is probably turning around in his grave seeing how easy it is nowadays for a (giant) slalom specialist to win a super g.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

But then people would complain - and they are doing it already - that it's all about gliding when the course is speed-oriented. I've read a ton of negative comments about Lake Louise which is probably the most old school course for women that it's "too boring". Then you have Bad Kleinkirchheim where even peak Vonn struggled, it was so technical and disgusting for a DH.

Yeah, she posted it on Instagram.

Vlhova gold medal alert? :mumble:

I think Holdener will take it considering her DH is a bit more solid than Vlhova’s unless mistakes happen.

I actual think the women's super-gs are perfectly fine. The mens super-g which are usually just downhills without training runs are what's really annoying me. Why have a super-g when the people winning are exactly the same who win the downhill. I don't want all downhill specialists to be competitive in super-gs as well and on the women's side that's exactly what happened

No absolutely not true. Dreßen for example is great in downhill but shit in super g, Ferstl is great in super g but shit in downhill. On the womens side its much easier to be good in both.

There are only few old school downhillers with Ortlieb-body type left. Paris is one and Feuz after he gained significant weight some time ago. Obviously Svindal too. But the former SG speciallists were simply Downhill guys who didn't have the Ortlieb-body type. Atle Skardal is one and Gunther Mader would have been too if only he wasn't an all-arounder in first place. That's the difference between now & then. We don't have any guys even doing 3 events (minus slalom) after Jansrud ditched GS and Carlo Janka has completely dropped off the boil. Women seem to switch to GS/SG tandem which usually was the most rare. Hell, even Bassino does SG even though she competes in AC. Maryna G-D gave up on slalom since she says she can achieve better results in Super-G. This is a momentum change, Rebensburg & Brignone found success in Super-G after being classic GS speciallists to begin with.

So your argument is, super-gs have to be more like downhills so downhillers have less of a chance?

    • now the shooting sport takes a little Christmas break and the new season resumes in January with the Asian Championships for the Shotgun specialists ( Doha, Jan. 11th through 22nd)   the World Cup will be back in late March, beginning in  Tangiers (March 25th through April 3rd, Shotgun specialists only)   the Rifle and Pistol specialists will start their new season with the European 10m Championships in  Yerevan (Feb. 27th through March 5th) and the 1st World Cup stage for them will be in  Granada in April (5th through 13th)   300m, 25m and 50m European Champs will be in  Osijek (May 30th through June 21st), meanwhile the Shotgun European Champs will be held in  Athens from Sept. 27th through Oct. 13th

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
