Josh 6,171 Posted July 9, 2023 #22 Share Posted July 9, 2023 With that win, we also rise to #16 in the World Rankings. Could be ranked as high as #15 by the time VNL ends if results from GER v. FRA go our way.

As the article suggests this is a mixed team. The best placed NORCECA team not qualified will qualify for Santiago 2023 as well Josh
Josh 6,171 Posted August 28, 2023 #25 Share Posted August 28, 2023 (edited) Squad for the Women's Volleyball NORCECA Championships https://volleyball.ca/en/news/women-s-norceca-championship-roster We're sending our A-squad, with no notable absences, so I'm assuming we're probably going to be using this tournament to prepare for Olympic Qualifiers in September. Matches will be streamed on CBCSports. Edited August 28, 2023 by Josh Surlympics

Josh 6,171 Posted September 4, 2023 #27 Share Posted September 4, 2023 (edited) So a little update here. Gray got injured during Canada's SF, don't know what exactly happened, but not looking good with Olympic Qualifiers just a few weeks away. Anyways we NEED her to be competing, otherwise, we'll have no chance at qualifying for Paris through the OQT, also dropping some big World Ranking points (Most likely will lose against the stronger teams, and most likely will drop sets against mediocre opposition) along the way. As for results, we lost in 4 to the Dominican Republic and won in 4 against Cuba, but during both matches, they were far from their best. They also showed some signs of rust against Puerto Rico and Mexico, I was hoping they could shake off some of that rust as time went on, but they didn't. On a positive note, I know they can play much better. Really hope this team can book their ticket to Paris, they're so fun to watch. (This has to be one of my biggest qualification hopes, maybe behind our women's 3x3 team and our already qualified men's 5x5 team) Edited September 30, 2023 by Josh Surlympics
Josh 6,171 Posted September 5, 2023 #28 Share Posted September 5, 2023 (edited) Men's NORCECA Championships starts today! Squad: https://volleyball.ca/en/news/norceca-championship-begins-for-men-today Canada plays Dominican Republic, and Mexico in group play. Big tournament for them to get some momentum heading into Olympic Qualifiers. (Pretty much their only chance of securing a quota for Paris, with their World Ranking being around 60 points behind #11 Netherlands) Some notable absences here, including Sclater and Elser. Josh 6,171 Posted September 7, 2023 #29 Share Posted September 7, 2023 (edited) 2-0 after sweeps over Dominican Republic, and Mexico and we're through to the semifinals! (+14.5 ranking points as well, which moves Canada to #14 in the World Rankings) Although we've had some questionable roster choices (Sclater/Elser out, both could be injured though), we seem to be playing much better than we did at VNL. But to have a more accurate visualization of how well they'll do come Olympic Qualifiers, I'll need to see how well they play against stronger opponents like Cuba and United States. Lopekky missed this year's VNL due to illness (According to VolleySource commentators), but looks like he hasn't missed a step.
