2019 Korean Series, game #1

amazing first episode of the Korean Series...

the Doosan Bears started strong and got a 6-1 lead after 4 innings, thanks to their big bats and their starting pitcher, Josh Lindblom, who kept the Heroes at bay for quite a while...

but when he was replaced after 5 innings, the Heroes started to hit hard against the Bears bullpen guys and came back, getting the game tied in the top of the 7th.

finally, in a very dramatic 9th, the Bears loaded the bases and after a couple of winning hits denied by the video replay, the eventually hit a long ball to the center field that gave them the winning run...

final score: Kiwoom Heroes 6, Doosan Bears, 7

2019 Japan Series, game #3

once again, we had an illusive first couple of innings, with the Yomiuri Giants taking an early lead thanks to a solo shot by Kamei against the Hawks starter, @heywoodu the Dutch Van Den Hurk (who didn't have his best outing...pitching only 4 innings and giving up 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned runs)...

the second and third innings saw the teams exchanging the lead and finally getting a transitory tie at 2 apiece...but when the Giants' starting pitcher got some early troubles, the Hawks, like the real birds of prey their nickname suggest, jumped on their rivals and in the 4th inning scored 4 runs that proved decisive for the outcome of the entire match...

in fact, in the last 5 innings nothing happened, with the Hawks bullpen dominating the Giants bats and shutting them down with no mercy...

final score: Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks 6, Tokyo Yomiuri Giants, 2

now the Hawks lead the series 3-0 and are just a win away from their 3rd consecutive championship (it would be also the 5th in 6 years...they are the real powerhouse of the Japanese Pro Baseball in these last 8/10 years)...

the possible clincher, game #4, is scheduled for Today in Tokyo @ 6.15 p.m. local time (11.15 a.m. CET)...

Korean series, game #2

AKA Kiwoom Heroes's disaster...

despite an awful outing by the Bears' starting pitcher Lee Young-Ha (who gave up 5 runs in 5 innings), the Heroes couldn't take advantage of that and blew a 5-2 lead after 7 innings, with the supposed best part of their bullpen giving up 1 run in the 8th and the decisive 3 runs in the 9th...

final score: Kiwoom Heroes, 5; Doosan Bears, 6

with this win, now the Bears also lead the series 2-0, before switching to the Gocheok Skydome (home of the Heroes) in the upcoming weekend...

game #3 is scheduled for Friday @ 6.30 p.m. local time (11.30 a.m. CET)...

Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks confirm themselves on the throne of NPB

The Hawks won also game #4 of the 2019 Japan Series (4-3 the final score, with the damage done in the 4th inning, when 3 runs entered for the hosts and once again nothing could then do the Giants, despite another late effort...the Moinelo -setup man- and Mori -closer- combo shut the last Yomiuri's hopes down for the 4th time in a row) and swept the series 4-0...

Hawks' Cuban star Yurisbel Gracial was awarded the Japan Series MVP (a well deserved MVP award, I must admit)...

It's the 3rd title in a row for the team from Fukuoka, the 5th in the last 6 years, the 7th in the new Century and the 10th overall since the NPB established in 1950...

2019 Korean Series, game #3

a big 3rd inning (a double, a triple, a 2-run shot and a couple of mistakes by the Heroes) was enough for the Doosan Bears to put also the 3rd game of the Korean Series in the bag (5-0 the final score)...

today, the Kiwoom Heroes' presence was totally unfelt...just a few hits collected by the home team here and there, but nothing that could put the Bears under some pressure...

very disappointing match, especially if compared with the first 2 of this same series...

now the Doosan Bears lead the series 3-0 and are just 1 win away from the title...

the possible clincher, game #4, is scheduled for tomorrow @ 2 p.m. local time, 7 a.m. CET...

Seoul Doosan Bears sweep the 2019 Korean Series

bottom of the 9th inning: the Bears are 3-0 ahead in the series and 9-8 ahead in game #4...

the 1st out has already been registered, but suddenly the Kiwoom Heroes manage to load the bases...1 more hit and the series is likely to go to game #5...

but a badly "chopped" swing by Kim Gyu-Min does waste the second out for the Heroes, allowing the pitcher to easily catch the ball and complete the forced out at home base...

then, on the following play, what looked an easy play for Doosan's third baseman became a capital mistake and allowed Kiwoom to at least tie the game, but that was the only run they managed to score...so, a 10th inning was required...

and in the top of the 10th, the Bears immediately jumped all over the Heroes' pitcher and scored the 2 runs that gave them the victory in this match and the clean sweep in the entire series...

before this decisive moments, the first 5 innings of the game have been an amazing slugfest, with the Heroes taking a large lead after only 2 fractions, but allowing the Bears a big 5-run comeback in the 5th, which proved to be the key moment of today's meet...

then things settled down for quite a while, before the final fireworks...

and finally, after a 5-hour battle, the Doosan Bears could start the party...

game #4 final score: Doosan Bears, 11 beat Kiwoom Heroes, 9

Just now, phelps said:

the living legend Mike Piazza is back with the Italian National team...:cheer:

and this time he's the new manager of the team, after the previous stint as hitting instructor during the WBC 2006 and from 2009 through 2017...

Italy isn’t in contention for Olympic qualification anymore right?

    • Because of the low number of votes some categories may be cancelled (under the rule that at least two people should vote for a nominee). I may give a few more days for voting but I guess there's just no interest this year
    • In Italy in recent years there is simply been a problem with training new talents and looking at Colturi, the problem probably isn`t a lack of talented youngsters but poor training. Colturi and Collomb were at similar level a few years ago but where are they now? And this is the same year of born - 2006. Since Goggia and Brignone young time we haven`t trained a single champion. It`s the same with men. Vinatzer is wasting away and regressing in development, the same with della Vite in the giant slalom. The problem is it the outdated system which proved effective at the beginning of the 21st century but not now This also applies to other winter disciplines with a few exceptions.
