I'm sure he had that in mind when he chose 211kg and not anything else. :d

OK even 217kg was too easy for Lasha, I wonder if there is any limit for him. he could lift 221 today if IWF didn't erase the old WRs.

I honestly don't know why he didn't try 221. I mean:

1) Everyone knows that would have been the 'real' WR

2) He was already quite far ahead anyway plus he'll probably gain another million kilograms in the CJ

3) His first two attempts looked like there was no weight on the bar

well maybe he needed one safe attempt (even tough to be honest even 217 was safe for him :d ) 2nd attempt to break the WR and 3rd attempt to increase it. I mean it makes sense from his points of view. but of course I wanted to see more like you.

maybe he is thinking about a very good WR in total , and he didn't risk for a big jump in snatch.

speaking of real "WR" when they erased all records in 1998, people only remembered those old records for couple years and then like it never happened before.. Talakhadze probably had that in mind.

personally I think they should keep the super heavy weight WRs. obviously there is no difference between +105kg and +109kg

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

    • Off to Milan for the 145th session of the International Olympic Committee. Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. This will be the eighth time the session is held in Italy, the last one being during the Turin 2006 Olympic Games.
