elsewhere around Europe, yesterday (and before)...

 

Czech Extraliga, Finals: HC Ocelàři Třinec proved just too strong for Bìlì Tygřy Liberec in game #3 of the final series...Třinec never looked really under pressure and finally they won the game by a score of 4-1, with only some great saves by Liberec's goalie Roman Will keeping his team away from a worse loss...

therefore, Třinec now lead the series 2-1...

game #4 is scheduled for Today, April 23rd once again in Třinec, once again @ 5 p.m. CET

 

Swedish SHL, Finals: in a fully packed Scandinavium, Frölunda HC just edged out Djurgårdens IF by a score of 5-3 in the series opener, mainly thanks to a better start in the game...

so, because of that, Frölunda HC obviously also lead the series 1-0...

Austrian EBEL, Finals: and just because I mentioned it in the previous update, finally in the 5th game of the series the home ice factor has been nullified so yesterday KAC Klagenfurt won game #5 on the road in front of a very disappointed Wien's crowd by a score of 2-0...

thanks to this result, now KAC lead the series 3-2 and tomorrow they will have to complete an amazing playoff run and clinch the title on the home ice...

game #6 is scheduled for Tomorrow, April 24th in Klagenfurt @ 8.20 p.m. CET

 

German DEL, Finals: Adler Mannheim on fire in game #3 of the DEL Finals...after losing game #1, they quickly changed the pace of their game and for Red Bull Munich it looks the night has come down, darker than ever...

yesterday Mannheim didn't leave Munich a chance to keep themselves into the game...they scored the 1-0 goal after only 5 seconds (5 seconds!!!  it must be one of the quickest goals in the history of the game) and finally they won by a score of 4-1...

therefore, now Mannheim lead the series 2-1 (and also regained and kept the home ice advantage through the series)...

European Leagues, yesterday's action summary...

 

Czech Extraliga, Finals: game #4 of the Extraliga Finals was very, very tight...not too much action on the ice and a lot shaky nerves among players and coaches...

the game summary is basically down to a good goal by Liberec inexplicably not given by the refs in the first period, the opening score always by Liberec in the second period and the final assault to Liberec's net by the home team, who finally paid off with less than 2 minutes to play...

after that, came the OT, where almost nothing happened for quite a while, until Bìlì Tygřy suddenly got the game winning goal thanks to Tomáš Havlìn in the 75th minute.

it was tough, but still a deserved win for them...

final score of game #4: Třinec, 1 vs Liberec, 2 (OT), which means that the series is now tied 2-2...

game #5 is scheduled for next Friday, April 26th in Liberec, as always @ 5 p.m. CET

 

Swedish SHL, Finals: Djurgårdens IF were looking for revenge after losing the series opener and they found it big time. They had a strong start and dominated game #2 in front of a sellout crowd at the Globe Arena in Stockholm.

the final score is Djurgårdens IF 5, vs Frölunda HC,1 which means that the series is now tied 1-1.

Finnish Liiga, Finals: home ice factor still decisive, which means that tis time it was HPK Hämeenlinna's turn to succeed...and in fact they won game #2 against Kärpät Oulu by a score of 3-1.

the series is therefore now tied 1-1 also in Finland...

German DEL, Finals: it really looks that Red Bull Munich have give up fighting...game #4 was just another one-team show...and that team is Adler Mannheim ...in fact, also last night they won easily, by a score of 4-0...

and so Mannheim lead the series 3-1 and now they have 3 consecutive "match points", 2 of them on home ice...

game #5, the first possible title clincher, is scheduled for Today, April 26th in Mannheim @ 7.15 p.m. CET

Swedish SHL, Finals: this time the home team came out in the middle and latter stages of the game, but still, the home ice advantage played a major role in the SHL Finals...

Frölunda HC, in fact, got back to success, beating Djurgårdens IF by a score of 5-2 in game #3 in front of another sellout crowd at the Scandinavium and now they lead the series 2-1...

Finnish Liiga, Finals: finally, in Finland the home ice advantage was broken...and it was HPK Hämeenlinna to find the way of doing it...they surprisingly won game #3 against Kärpät Oulu on the road by a score of 3-0 and now they lead the series 2-1...

KAC clinched the Karl Nedwed Trophy

EC-KAC won game #6 of the final series against the Vienna Capitals 3-2 (after Overtime) at home on Wednesday and clinched the Karl Nedwed Trophy.

 

EC-KAC has been the more dangerous team in the first minutes of the match and has threatened with shots from Hundertpfund, Wahl (twice), Kozek and Comrie.

But the Capitals managed to score the first goal: De Sousa finished a fast attack after a great diagonal pass from Schneider from near the left post in the 11th minute.

The guests got a boost and controlled the game then until the end of 1st period.

 

The Red Jackets had a perfect start into the 2nd stint: Hundertpfund earned the puck behind the net, passed it to Petersen, whose diagnonal-pass was finished by Harand under the crossbar after just 55 seconds: game tied, 1-1.

The guests stayed unimpressed and answered quickly...after a shot from the blue line from Fischer, Rotter potted the 2-1 from the rebound after 26 minutes of play.

The Capitals took two straight penaltys then, but, Lamoureux and Co. defended their close lead.

And afterwards, De Sousa, Schneider and Olden (shorthanded, 39th minute) had three great chances for the 3-1, but all were stopped by Klagenfurt’s goalie Haugen.

 

Out of nowhere, Petersen took a shot from the circle and beat goalie Lamoureux to tied the game once again after 53 minutes of play, 2-2.

Romig (Capitals) and especially Harand (Klagenfurt...he hit the post just in the last minute of regulation) had the chance to decide the game late, but the fate was not with them.

 

Therefore, the game went to Overtime, when Adam Comrie, after 75 minutes of tough battle, scored the Championship Winning Goal and put the word "END" on the Austrian domestic season.

 

It's the 31st Title for KAC Klagenfurt (Austrian record).

 

Nice stats: the entire EBEL season had a record breaking attendance of more than 1.1 million spectators on the stands (in 353 total games) and the Finals recorded 34.400 total spectators (6 matches), which is also the new record for the main Austrian League.

Czech Extraliga, Finals: game #5 of the Extraliga Finals ad it all...goals, comebacks, drama, controversy, poor refereeing and even a short blackout in the arena...

it started at a slow pace, like many other games of this final series, but soon things turned around and the fireworks exploded...

the home team took the lead after only 4 minutes and seemed to have the control of the game, but at the beginning of the middle stint, Třinec somehow found the net and tied the match, 1-1.

The contest was always tight and a minute or so before the end of the same 2nd period, Liberec got the advantage once again, thanks to a 4-on-3 power play in a very nervous phase of the game, with the penalty benches quite crowded after some argument was discussed between the entire rosters of the 2 teams.

In the final period, the guests had to increase the pace and they did it, finding the tying goal 7 minutes before the end of regulation.

Then things got quiet for a while and the inevitable consequence was that the game went to OT. Here both teams looked a lot more afraid of givin'up chances to the opponents rather than building anything by themselves (wait a minute! did I already write something like that before? sure, I did! by the way, it's quite a classic behaviour in such kind of OT, not great news for sure)...

But after 8:46 of the 1st OT, Martin Ruzicka put some magic out of his hat and, all by himself, unassisted, scored the game-winner for Třinec (it was only the second shot on goal of the entire OT between both teams)...

final score of game #5: Liberec, 2 vs Třinec, 3 (OT), which means that Třinec lead the series 3-2 and could clinch the title at home on Sunday...

German DEL

 

Adler Mannheim back on the throne

 

The Regular Season winners, completed their triumphant campaign also in the DEL playoffs.

 

Game #5 of the final series against the TRed Bull Munich, looked exactly like the other 3 already won by Mannheim, with the home team starting like a train and managing to earn a 4-1 lead just after passed the 30th minute.

But this time, the hosts at least did show some pride and tried to comeback. And they did it when Yasin Ehliz scored the 4-4 tying goal in the 48th minute.

After that, both teams had also some more scoring chances, but anothing else changed.

So, the match went to OT, where Mannheim goalie Dennis Endras saved his side more than once, until Thomas Larkin score the Championship Winning Goal in the 74th minute.

Then, the party started...Munich had to surrender the crown after 3 consecutive titles and Mannheim could enjoy their 7th DEL success in 25 years of the "modern era" of German Ice Hockey.

Swedish SHL, Finals: this time it was a closer match, but still the home side came out with the win once again, despite Frölunda HC took a 2-0 lead after 31 minutes of play...

the Globe Arena was not available, therefore yesterday's action happened in a packed Hovet...but surely it wasn't a disadvantage for the home team, which was pushed their always enthusist fans to a great comeback between the end of the second period and the 3rd one...

and Djurgårdens IF finally won game #4 of the SHL final series by a score of 3-2 (game winner scored by Niclas Bergfors at the 49th minute), which means that now the series is tied 2-2...

game #5 is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 30th in Göteborg @ 7.30 p.m. CET

Finnish Liiga, Finals: Kärpät's game #3 home loss was just a distraction...yesterday in game #4 they went back to business as mad as never before and quickly restored the home ice advantage in the Liiga Final Series, by travelling to Hämeenlinna and beating HPK on the road by a score of 4-2 ...

now the series is tied 2-2...

HC Ocelàři Třinec are the Champions!

 

Finally, the team from Moravia turned the RS result around and won the Czech title for the second time after 2011.

It's been a very tight 6-game battle...and game #6 was played with more or less the same storyline of the previous ones...

every time a team could earn the advantage, the opponents were quickly capable of sending their answer, until something unexpected broke the still situation...

yesterday, it was Liberec the first team to try and get the advantage in the opening period...but their lead didn't last for long, just as it happened to Třinec in the second period...

and when it looked that the game was heading to OT for the 3rd time in a row, at minute 56.03, Třinec's Vladimir Roth suddenly find a goal out of nowhere...

It proved to be the Title Winning Goal, but the party actually started only 2 minutes later, when Ethan Werek scored the empty netter that definitively made it clear that Liberec were done and dusted...

the final score of game #6 is: Třinec, 4 b. Liberec, 2

and the final score of the entire series is also 4-2 in favor of Třinec.

Finnish Liiga, Finals: Kärpät Oulu is now going for another back-to-back (their special feature, as they previously won the Liiga in consecutive years 3 times, 2004 and 2005; 2007 and 2008; 2014 and 2015)...

yesterday they won game #5 of the Liiga Final Series against HPK Hämeenlinna by a score of 2-0...

thanks to that, now they lead the series 3-2 and next Thursday they have the first possible title clinching game (on the road, meanwhile the possible 7th and decisive game would be at home for them)...
